I have been growing my own lettuce (I'm a first time gardener) in my backyard, and it looks awesome now and ready to eat. But it's taken about 2 months or so to get it to be this way, and I don't want to just eat it all and then have to replant lettuce seeds and wait another 2 months till I can eat some more.

Can I just cut off certain leaves without killing the plant? I know that plants need their leaves so that they can absorb the sunlight for photosynthesis, but how much of it does it need? Can I cut most of the leaves off?

Thanks!

I paid a contractor $1000.00 to fix my mom’s roof and he disappeared with a number of other people’s deposits. What protection do I have if I pay a deposit before any work is done and the contractor decides to not do the job and keep my deposit? (Usually attorney fees are nuch greater than the deposit so this is not a logical way to persue this problem). Are there any enforcible laws to protect consumers against this kind of problem?

As said in the title, my family and I have found a series of strange little bugs around the house. We first saw one on a pineapple around June 21 and have seen 4-7 of them subsequently around the house in various areas.

The bugs seem to be about 1 inch in length, possessing a 2-prong tail that is reminiscent of a scorpion, two rather long antennae and orangish black legs. They are quick little buggers who love to crawl about. (Non fliers.)

I've checked online and have seen nothing like it yet, but I'm not really that good at searching for insects it seems.

Does anyone have an idea what kind of bug this may be? Any help would be great!!

1) Move a stone foundation that measures 40’ x 30’ plus an addition wall 20’ long with it’s height varying from 3’ to 6’ to an area about 50’ away and create/build a 3’ high wall for as long as it will extend and level the area where the stone foundation orginally was?

2) Leave the walls as they are using rocks from taller areas to build up the lower area, creating a level foundation and then filling the foundation to make a patio?

I am filling in an area to make a patio behind my house. One landscaper recommended I fill the area with “crusher run” stones stating it will pack down securely and is fine enough to put a picnic table and chairs on.

Does anyone have experience with crusher run? Do you have any other idea of filler for an area 20’ x 30’? The perimeter is a stone wall foundation from an old barn.

My parents would like to discard a bunch of boxes containing sensitive documents. They're worried about someone getting a hold of their Social Security numbers from some of these documents. Instead of them having to go through box after box, putting one piece of paper at a time in the shredder, how can we quickly, effectively, efficiently, and inexpensively discard these documents in one fell swoop? Any ideas- even if they sound a bit strange- are appreciated, as long as the information on these documents will be rendered useless in an incredibly efficient manner as possible. I'm just trying to help my parents and I don't want them to have to go through the misery of shredding a good percentage of these documents. Please help!

Thanks!

I have a tree in my front yard that took some damage near the main trunk due to cicadas a couple of summers ago, and has now grown out over the roof of my house and is rubbing the shingles and fireplace. I need to find someone to trim it back for me, but what is the best way to pick a reliable company to do this work for me? How do I go about finding the right company to do the job with the least risk to my house and tree?

Why aren't houses built strong, with cement and brick walls? Is it b/c it's quicker to build?

Why are they built so fragile? Is the wood cheaper than cement?

Why not have fences also made with a tough and long-lasting material other than thin wood that almost everyone uses and that deteriorates quickly?

When I see videos of hurricanes and tornados, the houses just fly away like paper...

We have had this hole in the sink for the past few weeks. No water is leaking out, but there is a whole about the size of a pinky finger in teh middle of the basin. What is the best way to fix it and still have the sink look presentable?
God bless, and Thanks

I was doing a nail fill and spilled some liquid monomer on it. It has tiny dimples in the area now and I tried scrubbing it and because I used a scrubbie in circular motions now there are scratches on it and the top of the finish has dulled. I don't know what to do. I cannot afford to buy her a new table, but I need to fix my mistake somehow. This table is from value city furniture and I have a picture here to show you. It says it is all wood construction, but it appears to have a black laquer finish on it (like the kind that is impossible to keep clean, even your fingerprints can get all over it, the shiny kind like that). What can I do? Is there a product that I can use to remove the scratches and restore the finish just in that one area? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! See photo below. Thanks!!!

Central air unit is only 1 yr old, just had it charged and worked for 5 days. Today it was blowing warm air out of vents and the thick copper pipe leading to condenser outside of house was covered in ice. I shut it off. I read that it could be low charge or dirty filter, which filter? The filter on return vent is brand new, is there another filter in the air handler that I need to check? Really dont want to call service people out and get charged $88/hr if I can solve problem. Thanks

We bought a house in Houston with some beautiful cannas (pretty flowers on corn-like stalks). Once the flowers are done, am I supposed to cut them to the ground? The stalks are kinda dying. In Houston, we might be able to get another bloom this fall. Maybe? And how should I seperate them if I want another patch? (I heard it's easy.) Break apart the bulb/roots in winter?
