It's possible there is a short in your wiring mechanism. Has there been a severe storm in your area lately?

Sounds like the insulation on the wiring has been messed up. The wires are shorting together and that is the same as pushing the button. Take a look at the wiring at the doorbell. It could be that water has gotten into the switch. good luck.

If it is not a wireless doorbell then it can be water, bugs or mice. If your door has had work done to it after the doorbell was installed then it could be a nail hitting the wire inside and the moist air and rust could set it off. If it is a wireless, then see if some body nearby has a wireless doorbell and they may be on the same frequency. then somebody need to change their frequency. Look for a low battery if it takes one.

If it is a wireless type it may be RF interference. If it has the option to change the channel try doing that. If not try a different brand/model.

If it is a wired type try replacing the outside push button. It may have corrosion inside that is conducting a little bit of current that on occasion is enough to complete the circuit.

The transformer your bell connects to is possibly going bad. It is a coil, essentialy, and could be inducing a voltage which is causing a current to flow in the wiring - resulting in the bell ringing occasionally, when enough voltage is built up. By going bad I mean it is not reducing the voltage to the low level is should, and is not holding that level constant.

The only other possibilities I can think of is " Water getting behind the switch" causing the two wires to ARC, or 'Vibration,' causing the wires to come close enough to ARC or touch.

Probably a crossed wire. Check your button to see if the wires are touching each other or really close together

lol this reminds me of Simpsons episode I saw........call senior ding – dong (sorry that is from the same episode). Any way I think it may be the wiring or water or something could have gotten into to switch in any case you’re going to have to remove the outside switch and look or at the wiring in the thing that makes the sound.

Could be a short in the wiring.

the switch may be stuck closed, or the two wires are touching each other, which means that you have a short.

if its wireless, someone else near by has the same frequency on their doorbell. if its hard wired, you have a short...
