Choose a theme and go with it. You could do antiques, ivy and flowers, bird houses, or collections of various items like plates or ceramics. My friend had silk flowers such as lilacs and ivy and wooden grape vines twined along the tops of her cabinets and trailing down at the window edges. Her kitchen was beautiful. Try looking at some decorating websites or catalogues and finding ideas that suit your particular tastes.

My kitchen is alot like an old farm house kitchen and above my cabinets I have old coffee cans, tins, old mixing bowls and kitchen utensils that I dont use. An old tin coffee pot and tin mug...that kind of thing.

i'd buy a cheap rooster and like 3 hens and then spray paint them (completely, head to feet) with a color that i luv in a high gloss or semi gloss sheen. you can get them individually because you'd spray paint them anyway. each piece should run about 2 or 3 dollars at a garage sale. once they're painted a uniform color they will look like a set even though they are not
