I live in an apartment complex and it has two very large pine trees. I am puzzled because the tops of both trees are cut off. They are not located around electrical lines or close to any buildings. Got any ideas why this would be??

We moved into our house around 18 months ago.

I clean every single day including polishing the wooden furniture and cleaning my wooden floor. I clean the kitchen at least twice a day (the floor just once though).

I just can't seem to get that "homely" smell. I have got plug ins in the living room and one of those squirty air freshners in the kitchen.

When I walk in the house I want it to smell lovely like it does when I walk into my mum's house.

Any tips?

My son bought a nice wrought iron wine rack with a beautiful marble top recently - a small 3/4" chip on the edge occurred as it was moved from the wedding site to home - is there something we can buy/mix or try to cover/fill/blend in so it isn't so noticable? He was greatly saddened about it when they returned from their honeymoon. Thanks.

I have canned just 4 little pints of green beans from the first of the garden produce. I used uniodized table salt (because of an allergy I have) and I am noticing some kind of milky white settlement in the bottom of the jar. The lids are sealed tight. Is the settlement and color normal or am I in for trouble. I don't want to waste time and money. Thanks for your help.

I loved my cottage garden in Maine, all the colors and textures! Here in Florida (zone 9b) I seem to only have "plants" as my daughter calls them, not "flowers". I miss my peonies, tulips, bearded irises, oriental poppies and lilies.....are there substitutes for these colorful plants I can grow down here?

This would be for a average priced carpet with pading and installation in the New York city area. I know it can vary greatly with the type of material used but I am just trying to get a general idea of the cost. Thaanks.

I presently have several lotus plants growing in 20-gal. tubs of water in my backyard. Last year, I carted all eight of them into my unheated garage for the winter months here in Michigan. Unfortunately, we had a cold snap that lasted about 3 weeks and all of the lotus plants froze to death--except two. It's not feasible to heat the interior of our attached garage, nor run 100-W heaters in all eight tubs of water. So this winter, I plan to bring the lotus plants that will not fit in the bottom of my small pond into our heated sunroom that's just off of the kitchen. My question is, will the lotuses remain in a hibernation state during this long time period indoors at a 68-70 degree temperature or do they even need to go into hibernation? Lotus plants in the Philippines or Thailand, for example, don't go into a hibernation phase...or do they?

I live in Otsego County in New york State. We just moved into a new home and this plant is growing out front. It had died back entirely this winter. It is about 3 1/2 ft tall. Large simple leaves.Smoothed waved edge. The stems are a reddish color and are very thick. White pointed compound flowers. Shaped similar to a lilac but a lot smaller. Only about 2 inches long or so. The main branches and shoots on the flower are red/pink in color and at the very end of each shoot there is a single white flower with 5 petals and a very large green center that is rounded. I have pictures available. email me at Trinity_1121@yahoo.com.

Can you please tell me how does the cost of extracting heat from an average sized electric freezer compare with the cost of generating heat with an electric heater in the home? My old freezer runs continually these days - about how much money am I wasting?
