Normally a perc test is done by the company installing the septic system. This test determines what type system you need. One type is underground and the other is a mound (raised) system. A mound system is more expensive. 15 years ago when I had one installed, the cost for a mound system was $100 per foot over the cost of a buried system. You need to check with your local installers for prices. My system size was determined by the number of bedrooms in the house and I needed a 1200 gallon tank for 4 bedrooms.
