i was told benjamin moore and behr are very good paints

Any painting professional will have their own opinion as to which brand is better for whatever reason.
There are most certainly different paint grades, but it's not rocket science. Top of the line paint is... top of the line paint. Go with the paint store that has the exact color you are looking for. Lowe's - American Tradition, Home Depot- Behr, Walmart, these are fine paints sold by huge corporations. Sherwin Williams, Ben Moore, Porter, ICI, MAB are all paint stores. You'll pay about $20 a gal at the corp stores and about $20-$25 at the others.
I use Sherwin Williams for many reasons, one of which I see them everyday and they are a good group of people which I have an excellent relationship with. Oh, and their paint is only as good as the surface to which I apply it on.

Personally I really like the Behr brand of paint. I have also used the True Value brand of paint with great results.

I have been happy with Valspar from Lowes. You will also need a primer/sealer such as Kilz to get even coverage. You can have the primer tinted to ease in the final coverage.
