I have a piece of pretty tough leather, one side is nice and smooth, which is the finished side, and the other side is very rough, unrefined. How do I make the rough side nice and smooth as the finished side without having any leather tools?

Leather shoes or belt? My room is very damp and since I have alot of shoes that I don't wear, they tend to have mould/fungus buildup. I tried removing them and also applying polish/wax but they still grow up. Any permenent solution?

How do I remove several layers of white paint from a twin headboard/footbaord? It's got a lot of little crevices, too. I need a way to remove the paint without damaging the wood itself, thats not hazardous to domestic or wild animals, that wont hurt the environment, and thats not too expensive. Thanks!

the other day I stupidly left a shirt in the sink trying to clean off a spot and left the water running with the shirt in the sink, thinking the water wouldnt overflow, I took a shower and got out to find water everywhere all in the bathroom, and the hallway and into a downstairs room off the bathroom, the carpet {cheap berber}; was soaked, I used old sheets to try and soak up the water, but I dont have a shop vac so I just let it dry on its own, I feared it would start to have a mildew smell, and today my fears came to pass, its starting to have a mildew smell, how can I get rid of that smell...?

I have a an old outdoor patio where the grout has cracked and water can get beneath the tiles during heavy rains. There are 10 or so tiles that have the cracked grout and they even give a little bit when you walk on them and water will bubble up from the grout line as you put your weight on the tile.

So what are my options here if I am on a limited budget? Here's what I thought my options might be so please give your thoughts on each and give other solutions if you can.

1. I dig out the 10 tiles without breaking them and re-mortar and regrout them back into place.

2. I dig out the bad tiles and place new tiles in their place as part of some pattern I come up with.

3. I cover the entire deck (bad tiles and all) with self leveling concrete, then stain or polish it.

4. Is there some good, thick elastomeric type grout sealer that I could simply paint down on all the grout lines and would stop the leaking? Any recommended brands or types?

Its my mums 60th birthday soon and I have a lovely photo of her and her best friend when they were younger, I had it enlarged to 8x12" but little did I realise it was going to be sooo hard to find a nice frame for it!!! Ideally I would prefer one of those nice glass frames that have some detail etched on (like flowers etc), but I'm starting to get desperate so any ideas would be gratefully appreciated-Thanks!

I just bought a pair of pants from a catalog, and I am pissed! They smell like moth balls. Sometimes when I am in Chinatown or other Asian places, sometimes around Asian people I smell it too. ( I guess I should not stand so close huh?) hehe. Any advice other than washing the hell out of them over and over what can I do? Will it go away?????

This is a piece of a plant that was given to my Mom about 17 years ago by my Grandmother. We can't figure out what it is. You may be able to see that the branches are bamboo-like, in sections. It requires very little sunlight and water, and grows quite slowly.
Thanks for your help!

I am living in a very old house and will be for the next few years while saving and building our new home on our property. The house by no means is pretty and I do want to fix it up a little with out putting too much money into it. The bathroom is one thing that I am going to work on. The tub is just fine it the wall around it. When they built the house they put boarding up around the tub so it is not tiled at all. I dont know exactly what is behind it but I do know its not properly done. There is a window that I can see on the outside of the bathroom and the tub wall is actually over it. I guess as some point the updated (poorly) the bathroom and did this. It looks horrible and I guess I just want to do the same but with new materials that are not so outdated looking and that are clean. I am assuming that we can use a tub wall to just put around the tub. I wanted to know if this is something that is hard to do??? There is a door on the side of the tub that goes to the

Me and my family have been having problems with flying ants, what we thought were termites at one time. We've come to find that these are flying ants and they only bother us during the evenings when light is activated in our rooms. They like to fly all over my laptop screen and I get so tired of trying to smack them all the time. I would like to know if there's any sort of spray we could get to keep them from bothering us. We do not have any plants in our home, nor no windows opened to make them die with detergent.

I just killed a really large roach in my bathroom last night. I have lived in my house for about 8 months, and this is my first time seeing a roach (though springtime is just now underway). I have heard that "if you kill one roach there are a dozen more" and similar sayings. Do you think this roach is a sign of a problem, or just a fluke stray perhaps?
