Don;t buy into that eco-label so readily. It is being applied in many cases just for the ruse,
AS far as the lights check out flourescent bulbs. They lst up to 6 years and they provide the same light for I believe 5 percent of the power as standard bulbs.
Our power company supplies coupons for the bulbs and with them I can purchase a 60 watt bulb for .99 cents and that is a 6 year warranty. All lof my lights are now flourescent and I have not had to replace any burned out bulbs in the last 3 years since switching over. Check with your power company or your city light office. Don't be fooled by the hyphen eco-, as many are scams set to play off our desire to be sensible in todays heightened eco-climate most of which is based on junk science

I don't know which bulbs you purchased. The type of lamps I use in my house is TPC brand Compact Florenscent. These bulbs are available in warm or cool white. Are able to be used in enclosed fixtures (some are not). But a problem with these are that they are not able to be used with a dimmer switch. I replaced my regular incandescents with these 3 years ago and still have not have to replace one yet. They use 1/3 of the electricity and produce the same amount of light as a 60 watt bulb.

You are the victim of a scam. Not all energy-efficient light bulbs are short-lasting nor expensive. You just need to buy the right kind. And not just limited to light bulbs, I suggest subscribing to, or buying, a rating magazine from a non-profit organization that test products without bias. Consumer Reports and Consumer Digest are the top two.

Additionally, Even with the compact fluorescent bulbs, sometimes the brand one might trust the most, last the shortest.
I have been using Home Depot's brand, (Commercial electric)
and they don't last nearly as long as the old-style regular incandescent bulbs.
In our area, they have completely discontinued that brand, and changed to something else.
Another brand I've watched for about 15years is "FEIT"
sold in Walgreens locally, but maybe hard to get there.
The company manufactures their bulbs to run at a higher voltage, allowing them to run cooler than their rated capacity. Sorta like never running at full speed, causes it to last 2x longer.
