Yep, it's true. Basic laws of physics; rubbing 2 pieces of wood together creates friction which inevitably starts a spark, which, if you blow on it, starts a fire. That's how it works. Give it a try sometime when you are out camping, just be patient and consistent, and careful, when you try. Hope this helps!!!

The Australian Aborigine was capable of making fire while twirling a wood stick in a base the friction produced enough heat for a fire to start.~~

yes but you'd need a bow or something similar to spin the sticks fast enough to get the friction you'd need to produce enough heat. You also need dried grass or small shavings of wood at the base to use for coals. It's a LOT harder than it looks.If your ever going somewhere where you might need to make a fire...bring a lighter. much faster I promise!

True. Takes a while, but can be done. The goal is to produce a hot coal which is placed on leaves, moss, easily igniteable material, then kindling is added....here:
