Are plantation shutters hard to keep clean? Are there any drawbacks to woods shutters being used INSIDE the house on windows instead of miniblinds?

at my old house, in central ky, there was a vine growing like wild in my yard. the blooms were five petaled, white, and very fragrant. very much like jasmine. it was climbing in trees and along fences. (wish i had taken a start when i moved). does anyone know what this may have been, as i would love to have some more.

I live in a mobile home and the floor was rotten near the toilet. Someone came in to fix it. They replaced the board and cut the board around the bathroom. They board fits around the toilet but the toilet rocks when you sit on it. Is there anything that can be done to make the floor even?

Ever since I moved into my apt. in LA, red sticky droplets appear on the bathroom walls. I guess the best way to describe the texture is it looks sap like.

I think it is related to the condensation on the wall after I take a shower, but my walls are all white! (Why are the droplets red?) I can't think of a logical explanation for the phenomenon. The apt (specifically, the bathroom) is really old. The place was built in 1921 and a lot of the paint in my apt is made of lead. (Not counting the parts that have been painted over each time a new tenant has moved in which I guess has been dozens of times). I know for a fact the bathroom walls were repainted a few days prior to me moving in.

Does anybody have any theories on why it's happening (or better yet an actual reason for why it's happening?) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What is the most durable material to use for a California home to withstand potentially harmful weather in the future from global warming. Cost is not an issue. But I perfer the material to be environmentally friendly. Thanks a lot.

I think it's because of the flowers and the heat, but I am quite scared of the flies so I don't walk outside anymore because then I have to face them. Is there anyway to kill the flies that's not bugspray?

there is a septic leach field where I want to put it. At first I wanted to level the spot with sand and lay stone pavers, the area would be about 12 X 15 feet. But now I am worried about damagin the leach field wit possibly too much weight. As an alternative I am considering making a ground level deck instead, which would look the same as the deck, but that would need to rest on concrete blocks anyway, and wherever I put the block there would be even more damaging pressure under that small area. Does anyone know what is the maximum pressure allowed on the leach field? Also, I heard that if it gets clogged, I would need to rip out the patio to get to it. Any thoughts or advice would be greately appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hey there. My husband and I are in the process of purchasing our first home. The home that we fell in love with needs some updating...mostly cosmetic. I was curious if you could give me round-about costs for the following repairs. I know that it is hard being that there is not much info about the house, but a rough idea is good since we really have no clue. Keep in mind that we will be updating the house "on a budget." I know I can spend a million $ updating a kitchen, but what do you think is the min I can get away with.
1. Exterior siding (the house is about 1700 sq ft. not sure if that helps)
2. bathroom tiles
3. updated kitchen (cabinets and floors)
4. A fence
5. Doors (bedroom and main doors)
6. Windows (I know there is at least one bay window, then the rest seem to be regular ol' windows).

Thanks!

My neighbours just built a 12 foot fence at the back of my very small backyard (12ft long). I have about 2 feet between my deck and the fence. Any suggestions as to landscaping that would hide the face that the fence is practically bigger than my backyard?

I have tried the regular stuff like spray paints and model car paint but they are either to shiney or dull gray. I need it to refinish a mirror frame. Is there a paint or technique I can try to get a brushed nickel and or stainless steel look?
