there is a septic leach field where I want to put it. At first I wanted to level the spot with sand and lay stone pavers, the area would be about 12 X 15 feet. But now I am worried about damagin the leach field wit possibly too much weight. As an alternative I am considering making a ground level deck instead, which would look the same as the deck, but that would need to rest on concrete blocks anyway, and wherever I put the block there would be even more damaging pressure under that small area. Does anyone know what is the maximum pressure allowed on the leach field? Also, I heard that if it gets clogged, I would need to rip out the patio to get to it. Any thoughts or advice would be greately appreciated!

Pavers are your best bet--but if there is ever repair that's needed you will definitely have a job of taking all of that out. If you feel compelled to build, I'd just make sure the blocks that are layed are carefully placed. I would not put anything such as a gazebo or hottub anywhere around the vicinity due to the possible pressure.

On rare occasion, I have seen them tear up the leach field, and if this happens then they will have to rip up your deck or patio. I'm not too sure I would want to build over the leach field myself. I hope someone else can give you more info on the problem, but that is my opinion. good luck.

If your patio was properly poured, it should slant slightly away from the house to keep moisture from accumulating against the structure. Check this with a level. If it is properly drained, you can build your deck with no worries. Be sure the allow for the slant and keep your deck level.

Avoid anything to disturb it. You don't want those headaches to deal with.
Build something really nice in another location, and be happy with that.
I've seen pathways to gazebo's with hot-tubs and decks that are a small distance away, they are great, and you won't notice or care after a very short while that it isn't bolted to the house!

Don't put anything over the field, In fact in many places it's against building code to cover the field with any kind of structure. Sorry.

Pavers wont hurt a leach field. but. i wouldn't put a hot tub on it or anything. And pavers would be easy to remove if there ever was a problem. Good Luck.
