I live in Northwest Indiana, 2 years ago we planted a tree with some landscape annuals. Mostly hostas, mini rose bushes and some ornamental grass. Well last year the ornamental grass did not come back so the back half of my area does not have anything in it, so the front is fillled with plants and the back half behind the tree is empty. what kind of annuals can i plant that are hearty enough to withstand our cold weather., we had snow a week ago, and today was 85/ what will look nice and be easy to grow and will come back every year?
thanks

It's just a simple shelf design thats about 8 feet tall by 3 feet wide, and 18 inches deep. It's open in the front with no doors. The back is made out of 3/4 inch plywood and the sides and shelves are made out of pine. It's not fancy. Someone bought the wood and screwed it together, but now they need to get rid of it. What's a reasonable amount of money for me to offer them for it. I don't know what its worth, and I don't want to offer them too much.

My bed continues to squeak. I've already replaced the mattresses. I don't know if it's the frame or what but every movement there is noise and it's driving me crazy.

What do I need to buy to start planting a veggie garden? I already have the seeds and bulbs, but i don't know if I need soil, plant food or what. If you can also tell me brand names that would be great.
Thanks!

The previous owner painted squares on the wallpaper in a decorative display. I would like to remove the paint, but save the wall paper. Is this possible?

Theres a sucker (no roots) on a very established J. Maple out front here at my work place, could it actually establish roots with root hormone if cut from the mother tree, and how long will it take to establish itself and where should I keep it while this process is taking place?

I bought a semi-rural house late last summer on a wooded lot. The previous owner never removed the leaves and they built up over many years to a depth of 6 - 8 inches in some places. It was a mess to say the least. I spent the winter raking and burning leaves. Under the leaves is 2 - 3 inches of leaf mold and a lot of root mass. I'd like to seed the yard with grass but don't know if I should remove the leaf mold down to the bare soil first or seed the lot over the leaf mold and hope for the best.

I would imagine this would depend on the number of cuts per inch. So which would produce a smoother surface?

I would prefer pictures as well. We went to lowes and they calculated how many panels, posts, deck screws and cement.
Is there any other things that we may need?

Today we killed at least 6 snakes, and a few from before. I think there are more. They have nested in my wall (see pictures below) and I'm afraid they will continue to lay eggs and reproducing. If anyone could help me...
1. Find the number for Animal Control in Chicago, IL
2. Any tips for getting rid of these snakes
3. Identify these snakes - are they poisonous? (it may be hard to tell from the picture)
4. How to prevent snakes from coming back
5. Anything else I should know about

Please, and thank you (I have very serious ophidiophobia, fear of snakes)

P.S. they are very big, I would say the biggest we killed was at least a few feet long

May be a silly question :-) but,

I've noticed, for a while now, that potatoes grow eyes while I have them stored. My mom always stored hers in the cupboard and so that's just what I happened to do. She just now told me the fridge was okay as well. Is that the only solution? She said they'd still grow eyes but not as fast.

The problem is that I bought a whole bag and I don't eat them all that fast and I'm the only person at my house and so the only one eating.

My house has direct wire (120v ac) smoke detectors. One of them will emit a beep every so often. Does a backup battery need to be replaced? Is one of the wire connections loose?

If a silver birch tree has been cut down to half size and all branches cut off, what chance is there of it regrowing. Trespassing neighbours thought it would be a good idea to cut OUR tree down.....
