I immediately thought of crotons. They are beautiful and come in a riot of colors from greens to splashy reds.

Or, could it be canna lilies? Tropical with gorgeous flowers. Some varieties have green leaves others red - sort of like upright banana plant leaves.

Could be Colocasia or Alocasia sometimes known as elephant ears. Could also be Castor Plants. They get up to 15' high and can be green, purple, or red. Seeds are extremely poisonous, as they are the source of Ricin. Beautiful plants though, I grow them every year.

I think you might mean Caladiums?
They resemble Elephant Ears but they are a bit smaller and come in colors like reds or pinks or light greens.
