If a silver birch tree has been cut down to half size and all branches cut off, what chance is there of it regrowing. Trespassing neighbours thought it would be a good idea to cut OUR tree down.....

Should grow again, with some TLC but because they have chopped the top off it will probably grow multibranched and have an ugly shape (they have chopped the leader out).

This sounds very suspicious, did they want to improve the view for their house perhaps? Birch are very fast growers given good water etc. Perhaps it's best to start with a fresh tree. If you think they chopped it down for the view, tell them you'll put in a river birch (betula nigra) taller than silver birch (Betula pendula) and very quick growing, because you've always wanted a bigger tree there. That will really annoy them. Good Luck, what a shame you have such dopey and obnoxious neighbours.

the silver birch is indigenous to the UK. It usually gets covered in aphids which ants "milk " Various moths lay eggs on silver birch. None of these will damage your trees. Keep the roots moist, not wet and next spring they will come into bud again.Try planting daffodils around them, they will increase over the years giving your garden a country look, good luck
