I live where there is alot of sand, can I put some kind of grass down ?

Bermuda is best. It can tolerate drought and is tough enough to even use on football and soccer fields.

Sandy soil mix with grass species that have tolerance for well drained soil types.
25% Alene Kentucky Bluegrass
20% Mardi Gras Perennial Ryegrass
20% Performer Chewing Fescue
20% Boreal Creeping Red Fescue
15% Warwick Hard Fescue

Generally I have found that a 50/50 mix of Kentucky Bluegrass and Perennial Ryegrass can work well on sandy soil. Only problem with sandy soils is that when you water the grass it leeches out quickly and so you may have to water more frequently.
