The electric company in my area recently doubled their rates. They have a monopoly and apparently we have no other alternatives unless we all want to start buying solar panels for our roofs. I am very worried about cooling costs this summer when the air conditioner comes on. What can I do now, to prepare for the hot summer months?

I have a 4x18 steel frame pool from wal-mart, we have well water and alkalinity if off the chart! What do we add and how much? I think it hold 16000 gallons of water, but I could be wrong. I've only added clorine, since well water has absulutly none. Water looks fine, very clear, but test reading very high.

The water rises in a spring chamber , pipes to a large collection chamber, alkathene pipe down the hill to the house and copper pipe in the house. The blue color suggests the copper but most houses use copper.
Thanks.

Hi there, i'm doing a coursework on estimation of quantities and concrete. Included are plans and elevations (with not many measurements) of a residential house. I'm a bit confused regarding Question 2, which has asked us to determine the volume of concrete needed to build all the concrete elements of the house.

The length and width of the house is 13.3m and 15.2m

the Height of the house from ground to roof is 8.805 m

There is also a figure giving the slab level SSL 30 -250 (not sure what this is)

I think we are suppose to just assume the depth of concrete needed, as it has not been stated on the plans. What would be a realistic figure? What do I have to take in account? Footings, slabs?

I understand the formula used to work out the volume of concrete is:

Length x Width x Depth

But, In GB do we order concrete in cubic meters or cubic yards? I just want to make sure I give my answer using the correct unit.

thanks for any help in advance...

The very condensed version of the story is that the plumber came to fix my boiler, two weeks later it broke again, they spent 1.5 days at my house to try to solve the problem only to leave us two times with carbon monoxide emissions around 110 PPM (1-2 PPM is normal) After they left us with the boiler still broken, our local power company came over and within 5 minutes he had identified and fixed the problem. The plumber billed us $1000.

For whatever reason, I feel really guilty about this because he spent so much time at our house, but I can't justify paying him because he essentially caused the problem, did not fix the problem and left us with a furnace emitting very high levels of carbon monoxide. On top of it all, the guy from the power company came in and fixed the problem by replacing a missing piece of the pilot assembly within 5 mins.

Thoughts on the case? Why do I feel guilty?

PS He is very mad and probably going to sue us.

Can we not just glue the tiles together without any space in between? I neither have the time nor have any enthusiasm to clean grouts. Asian homes with marble flooring have no grouts. Why don't we have the same technology?

Ok we have a la5380XTW1 Whirlpool clothes washer which is totaly dead as it won't do anything when turned on. It is currently stuck filled with water and appears to have totaly died. I am thinking it could be a fuse within the washer that has blown, but haven't had any luck finding where it might be located. There is no fuse in the plug and the outlet it is plugged into has been tested and works.

Also if anyone can think of anything else that might cause this I am open to suggestions. Also it is a normal washer with the lid on top and is fairly old only has dials on it. (I couldn't find it on whirlpools website).

Thanks in advance for any help.
