I live in Northwest Indiana, 2 years ago we planted a tree with some landscape annuals. Mostly hostas, mini rose bushes and some ornamental grass. Well last year the ornamental grass did not come back so the back half of my area does not have anything in it, so the front is fillled with plants and the back half behind the tree is empty. what kind of annuals can i plant that are hearty enough to withstand our cold weather., we had snow a week ago, and today was 85/ what will look nice and be easy to grow and will come back every year?
thanks

If you are a novice gardner you best source of information is at a local garden center or nursery. Also find links like below to learn about the plants for your area.
Just type in landscape nurserys in the search engine

Annuals are plants that live only one season, die and don't come back.

Perennials are plants that usually survive and will come back year after year.

Go to your nursery and ask to see Perennials such as phlox, pretty colored flowers about 3 feet high, hostas, 12 inch green foliage plants that brighten a shady corner, daisies or chrysanthemums to bloom summer into autumn and will come back the next year. So many perennials. Ask at your nursery.
