I plan to build a raised garden bed in my back yard to grow vegetables (tomatoes, squash, etc.). I am planning to raise the bed only about 5.5" from the ground. Is that enough to make a difference or does the bed have to be higher? It seems like there are lots of variations on bed height from about 5.5" to about 30". I don't know if this makes a difference, but I am in Zone 7. Thanks for the help.

I melted some candles in a bowl and now the wax has hardened and there is no wick left. Is there any way I can get it out? Apart from thinking before I do things...

and the best way to clean them! I find mine builds up with residue (grease), and takes a lot of work to clean it off with a hob cleaner fluid I bought. Is there any product which will dissolve the grease EASILY!!!

I'm building a set for a photo shoot and I want the walls to have a derelict feel - peeling paint and damaged walls. How can I get a quick damaged affect on the paint?

I have this last week dug a huge pond which has been filled with clean water, i have also put in airating ? plants so why has the complete surface been covered in a green frothy algi ? I have already skimmed it off once but it has grown back. The pond is not lined as it has been dug into clay. If anyone knows how i can get rid of this without puting in anything that will harm my ducks or geese i would appreciate it.

I have a Mira shower (model unknown) with a circular dial to turn water on/off and a similar dial below to control temparature.

The temparature dial will not move. It has a red button on it and by pressing this I can take off the silver coloured outer casing of the dial. The inside is black plastic so I do not really want to use pliers to force it round in case it breaks. I have tried spraying with WD40 but it has not loosened.

There is a screw at the front of the internal black plastic knob but tightening or loosening this does not seem to do anything.

There are 2 screws which attach the silver coloured plate with the two dials to the wall. I do not think taking this off will do any good.

Any ideas anyone? The temperature is stuck at 30 degrees and I'm worried that in the summer I will have a choice of being burnt or smelly!

Help!! I just bought a house and need 20 or more lawn lights. Does anyone know of a good site to purchase these lights in bulk....meaning the price will be cheaper rather than buying from a retail store like Target.

I need help!! or advise... I am changing my room's light switch to a more modern one... I read articles online and found it very simple to do, as always, turning the circuit breaker off as FIRST THING. But my question is the following: The breaker feeds 2 rooms, in one of them only the outlets, and on the other one (mine), outlets AND the switch, I have no idea what gauge is it either 12 or 14, the breaker is 20 AMP. The Light Switch says "only use #14 wire, I tighetn both screws the light seems to work perfect, but...what if the wires are 12 gauges? what could happened, should I take the old switch back, or no big deal... THANK YOU!!!!

I just bought a new house with a bare dirt backyard. I don't want to put in sod because I want room to plant various flowers and herbs and vegetables. I do want a groundcover also though so it's not just bare dirt where I don't have anything growing. Can anyone recommend a hardy easy to grow groundcover that is attractive but grows like a weed? I live in a very sunny and dry location (Southern California) with clay and sandy soil. Thanks!

We have neutral carpet with black along the baseboards. Our realtor told us it is due to candle soot traveling through the heating/air system. Has anyone experienced this?

Usually every shirt I buy is 100% cotton. I usually wear a Large but whenever i get a Large its shrinks too much but when i get an XL it doesnt shrink enough and makes it smaller length wise but not in width (making it look retarted).

How do you fix the pull cord on a push lawn mower? Actually, it needs replaced. Is this a task that you can do yourself or does it need taken into be serviced by a lawn mower technician? The pull cord frayed cause I think I must have put the top protector part on it crocked. (I KNOW, wasn't a brilliant move). It caused a shrearing type of effect. Now the cord won't retract. Thanks, Kimmie~

I need some sand, I called my local nursery. They said that 1 cubic yard of sand would cost me $25.00. But I don't know exactly how much 1 cubic yard is. They said it would fit into my pickup truck, a chevy silverado. If I knew how many pounds, then I,d know for sure if the sand would fit in my truck. Other wise I'll have to pay for delivery. Hope someone can help, Thanks
