My room is upstairs and when I come in the door there is a loud squeak under my carpet. Does anyone have any suggestions ? (without tearing up the carpet)

first find the very spot where you feel a board move.if not you
may have lose sheeting. drive a nuber 6 finish nail into this area .you can use a much larger nail to finish driving the finish nail tight.repeat if nessary.they use a board on its edge
to support the flooring.usaly??? about 2 inches thick.good luck!

most likely a nail has come loose near the end of the subfloor. not sure if a stud finder will be able to detect the stud through carpet, but you could try. if you do then use a drive a nail right though your carpet to the stud. the nail should be at least two inches long and about 3/16" thick max. do not use a screw. the screw will tear up the carpet.

good luck!

Thats a tough one. You could try a foam pad over where the squeak is to help absorb some of your weight but it might not work. best option is to replace the old boards but that involves tearing up the carpet among other things. sorry I cant be more help! Good luck.

A finishing air gun nailer could do the trick. Staple a couple of nails thru the carpet. You could do it by hand with a hamer, but it maybe wouldnt work because the hamering would loosen the nails in the wood and the squeaking would be back to hunt your dreams!

I'm sorry to tell you this but you have a loose floor board. you need to pull up the carpet in your doorway and find the exact spot and repair it, or you can put baby powder in the area that squeaks, but you still have to pull up the carpet.
