WOW I have never heard of that one before, We bought an older home with the same type of blacking along the edge of the carpet against the wall one room it came out of by throughly cleaning and never returned so this told me it was just a build up of dirt. Another room however cleaned up just fine but then this blacking returned after a few weeks so we had to tear out the carpeting and found there was indeed mold along the edge of the carpeting. So I suggest cleaning it first to hopefully save you some money and if it returns pull up a little bit of the carpet to see whats underneath of it. The last thing you want is you and your family to be breathing in mold spores. ~Good Luck ~

This is a phenomenon called 'filtration soiling'. The heating and cooling system is most likely a forced air system and air required for the furnace to work properly is drawn from the various rooms of the home. When the air is drawn towards the furnce it is pulled toward the baseboards and then to the furnace. Any particulates or soot in the air are drawn down through the carpet which acts as a filter and causes the particulates to deposit along the base. Candles might be a reason there are so many particulates in the air but even if candles were eliminated you would still experience the soiling along the base board.

this is filtration soiling. Air can leak even thru the cracks below the base board, just the ebb and flow due to normal atmospheric pressure changes, and your carpet acts as an air filter. A competent carpet cleaner with a brush and the proper gel cleaner should be able to remove a fair amount of it, although I have seen it permanently soil the carpet beyond repair. I had acarpet cleaning business for six years and encountered this frequently with and without the candle scenario.

It appears like a neat thought, yet i do no longer understand how reliable it is going to actual look. Black has a tendency to make rooms look smaller while on the partitions, so no rely if this is on the ceiling it might desire to furnish the visual appeal of the ceiling being plenty below it actual is. it might desire to reason you or others to sense heavy interior the room to boot. people react to colorings. For an occasion, while you're in a sunshine yellow room, maximum folk sense uplifted, extremely joyful or lively. in a grey room, people would sense depressed, chilly or trapped. So in case you think of of it, black would reason you to sense trapped, hectic, adverse, heavy or depressed. The white could be a advantageous assessment, in spite of the undeniable fact that it will make the room look small. while you're going for the yin-yang look, perchance you may desire to color the partitions a warming/balancing color. perchance a easy blue or green or maybe pinkish(coral or peach) and then have the backside 0.5 of the partitions accomplished in black stripes. Your furnishings and ornament sounds like it is going to artwork, yet don't be afraid to characteristic color.
