The well is approx 1 meter in diameter and there is no room to operate a spade when climbing down inside. Does anyone know of any special type of tool, or digger that can be used to dig down in a restricted space ?

i suppose that first impressions count a lot; i have heard that people have made up their minds as they walk down your path, so i guess that little things like the colour of the door could swing it!

My pear tree (aristocrat) has too much trunk movement for my comfort, and appears to list to one side. It's as high as two stories, but only 18 feet from the house. It is a strong tree, unlike Bradfords.

I think it moves because seven yrs ago I planted it too shallow, and made the hole too wide - so that the virgin soil is not close enough to the original ball. Makes sense?

I need to straighten it for this year at least. What is the best way to stake a tree this big?

I recently replaced the motor coupling by laying washer on its back. Could that have gotten water in the water level switch or valve and ruined it?

We got 7 inches of rain in New York. I have a finished downstairs with an attached garage. We have swept the water, shoveled it used a shop vac and poured the water in the garage sink. The water level has not receded. I also have water coming out of a hole in the garage floor (which I thought was for drainage). Any advice will be appreciated.

I was feeding my cat this morning and found the weirdest bug I've ever seen on my kitchen floor. It moves pretty quick. It can go forward and backward but also sideways. When I showed it to my mom, she asked if it was a tick or a flea. I know for sure it's neither. It's about the size of a tick but it has a soft body. It's body is about tan in color but it has thin black lines going horizontal across it's abdomen. It has eight legs like spiders and ticks but the unsusal part about it is that it has tiny little pinchers like a scorpion has. I have always been a bug freak. Spiders don't scare me. I love snakes and frogs but this one stumps me. If anyone knows what it is or has any ideas please help. If it helps, I live in southern Wisconsin just south of Madison.

I found a bunch of white balls growing in my garden under all the dirt and the mulch. They are white with little stringy roots. Sometimes they pop out of the ground and make a tubular like sponge with an orange top.
I want to look it up on the web but I don't have a name to go on.
Thanks for your help!
I appreciate all serious answers.

Is it considered improper to have different colored carpets in different rooms of a house? What if the areas are separated by wood flooring? What about different floors? What about for stairways connecting floors?

My mother is about to spend big bucks recarpeting her whole house because she thinks it all has to match. Any input is appreciated!

Please give your source, especially if you found a website stating the rules. I need something I can print up to show her as proof.

I am pro-recycling. This weekend I used an old cardboard fruit crate to pack my shopping in (instead of evil plastic shopping bags). Not only could I put the crate in the recycle bin, it kept all my shopping upright in my boot.
Does anyone else have a great recycling tip?

I moved into a house last June and had a brand new garbage disposal installed, never had issues with it. A couple of months later we bought a dishwasher from Best Buy and had them install it for us. After that the disposal sounded like there was something loose in there. We called a plumber and he said the disposal was shot because a valve was missing and I have a feeling Best Buy tinkered with it to install the dishwasher.

Long story short, we have to get a new disposal and a new valve, total bill $315. Is there a way to egt Best Buy to pay that, is that covered under warranty?

Thanks!

I have several concerns about water that is coming from my neighbor's house/property. This house was built approx. 5-6 years ago on an empty lot that was next to my house. I think the house is built on an underground stream because when the builders where digging out the basement, they hit water and it looked like they were building an in ground pool. I have also noticed that in between rains, their concrete foundation is always wet. The house was built very close to the property line, probably within 7-10'. The front and side of the house is graded to where water runs onto my property (my house has a minimal grade). And to top things off my neighbor has some sort of sump pump/down spout setup (they are tied together) that when there is heavy rain, water gushes out of it and therefore my lawn is flooded. This has caused the soil in my front yard as well as my side yard to erode to where the roots of these trees are now exposed. This wasn't a problem before and I can't even grow new grass seed there because of this. I worry that with heavy rains, and high winds (like we have experienced this past weekend) it could cause one of these large trees to fall onto my house. I'm not sure if I should put out the money for a retaining wall, to bring in topsoil or what. All of this excess water is also bringing water into my basement.

What do I do about this?? I’ve contacted my township’s zoning office and I’m waiting for a response. I have not yet spoke with my neighbor about this. I really would like to avoid an argument with them because other than this they are awesome people.
