Contrary to what everyone is telling you, you can paint bathroom tile. The most important thing before you start is that you clean the tile with a commercial cleaner like STP or something equivalent (they can help you in a hardware store). You will need a good primer and then use a product called "melamine" paint. This paint is exactly for what you are talking about and can even paint arborite and none porous surfaces. Any place they sell paint will have it. Just follow instructions and good luck.

If you paint you will never be happy with the result. It will start to peel off and look shabby.

Could you leave the tile in its old color and do some wall painting to change the overall appearance of its colors?

Could you use some accessories like colored towels to change the color scheme without touching the tiles?

If you really want to tile maybe you can redo the floor tiles and leave the wall tiles alone (since floor tile removal and replacement is easier)?

Anyone can tell you. " Sure You can change the colors of your tiles.." but do you really want layers of primer or whatever color you had in mind sprayedpaint all over?

Or did you plan on getting a paint roller and moopping your floor with paint?

It'll end up looking like a junkie went to town with some aresol cans.

Therefore, it is highly probable that you will need to replace your exsisting tiles with new ones.

The process is fairly simple; Visit your local hardware store andthey should be more than glad to take your money.

Cost should mainly go to the style of tiles, adhesive to keep the buggers on the floor... as long as you take proper measurements before you start cutting away, you'll be fine.

Use Zinsser primer shellac base. Pronounced (Zinzzer) This will keep the paint on and keep it from peeling. Clean tile with tile cleaner will be your first step. Let dry. Zinsser is meant to put on glossy surfaces without having to sand. Use one coat let dry one hour, then another coat. Wait another hour then use a high gloss latex or Kitchen and Bath enamel paint. This product is water-based. Even though your primer is an oil based product you can use a latex on top of it. It is different than using an oil base paint. Trust me. You may need two coats of paint but it will work. The only downside to this project is the grout will be the same color as your paint, Most people don't mind, as long as it is the color they want.

You will need only a quart of shellac base primer and a quart of paint. Use a high density foam roller, one for primer and one for paint. Brush as little as you can get away with. The foam roller will leave a spray like finish. No texture or brush strokes. You can find all products at the Home Depot. I am a paint pro in the paint department, I know this will work, just use the best mildew resistant moisture resistant paint. This would be Behr, pronounced (Bear). Use our new Kitchen and Bath paint, it is awesome, with nanogaurd that makes it more durable than a high gloss, it is Sateen Luster.

Depending on what surface you are trying to cover, there is a glazing process that is similar to paint. It is called Amazing Glaze where I live....I assume it is a chain and you can find one in your city. The owner before me had the shower stall, bathroom sink and counter top as well as the kitchen counter tops done with this process. Everything in the bathroom has held up very well. However, the kitchen counter because of how much it is used on a daily basis and the materials used on it tends to start chipping after a year. It's been about 3 years and the bathroom looks great. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a makeover but isn't ready for the expense of a remodel.

You could paint it but you should retile because moisture will get under the paint and cause the paint to peel.
