I have been spending a lot of time researching and inspecting. For those who have actual experience with both these type of floors, would you please give me your take on whcih one to go for.

My biggest concern keeping me away from going solid hardwood, is the scratching/denting, particularly the scratching part factor. It apperars that lamiate flooring is a lot harder and more durable to abuse.

It is my house, but I do not want to live like a guest in it. Taking the shoes off, watching not to pull the chair to fast, etc.

Thanks for your input.

My carpet is threadbare and needs replacing. The kids are almost grown and pets live outside. Should I get a timber floor or go with carpet again. Which is easier to keep clean? I know that carpet is dirty but it also hides a lot. If you have a timber floor and then get rugs, aren't you getting the vaccuum out anyway? What do you think?

I installed a light fixture in a ceiling fan. The light fixture has four arms and the manual says that each arm can handle up to 60 watt bulb. The light fixture is connected to the ceiling fan's wire. And I put four 60 watt buls in the light fixture. So, the total wattage is 240watt. One day, my wife said that she smells some burning stuffs around the ceiling fan. The smell could come from a different source. But, I am wondering if 240watt is too big for the fan's capacity. Does any one know this type of problem? I see some of light fixture says that the maximum wattage is 150watt, and some of them say 60watt. How do they determine that?

I just dyed my hair brown and noticed that I spattered dye all over the wood door in the bathroom. I wiped it with a wet cloth, but it's not budging. Any ideas?

The grounding wire that comes with the fan is just an uninsulated wire that would be okay if it were run through the wall but not okay in a swag use.Is it really necessary to ground it.
There is no electrical connection in the ceiling.

I have pergo that stops 1" from the carpet in a doorway. The carpet originally ran into the hallway but it was cut and replaced with pergo. If I install the 4-in-1 as directed the directions indicate to butt the molding up to the carpet. What do i use to hold the carpet down? (i'm assuming you'd be able to lift the carpet up).

I plan to lay a mulch border around my backyard. I will spray down weed and grass killer first on the area I plan to border off with mulch. I know that its recommended that a fabric be laid down under the mulch. That's not a problem. Will grass grow through the mulch without the fabric even after grass killer has been applied?

We just moved into a new house and I'd like to fix up my dads bedroom. He's 55 and into westerns. So, I'm going for a rustic country look. Problem is...there's paneling in his room. It has already been painted an off white/creamy color. How do I use paint and make it look like old wood? Thanks in advance.

I installed a metal periscope dryer vent but it's real close to the gas line. It's a tight space so the gas line is touching the metal vent a bit. Should I be concerned that they touch since the vent can get hot?

I accidently melted plastic on my grill (flat, good for pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches). It came off, but so did some of the finish. It is 20 years old or more. Is there anything to spray on it to redo the finish?
