Can anyone who's had one for a long time tell me if they get worn looking? Would you buy one again?

My 1966-built house is on a hill and I have some mild settling problems. I replaced a sump pump a few years ago and arbitrarily set it at the bottom of the sump. As in, it pumps out a lot of the water. The sump is only about 5" fill at any time.

it seems I have some significant settling signs in that corner of the house and I'm wondering if the continual draw of the water in the sump is creating an underground stream of sorts (serving to pull more water toward my house). This theory is all cooked up in my head and I have no expertise that would suggest I'm at all right.

but I still wonder if I'm pumping too much water out and would be better served by raising the level of the pump so that the sump hole is more full (by default). Are there any guidelines that relate to the water depth of a sump?

Thanks,
Mike

The fire extinguisher in our house is over 10 years old. The gauge shows that it is fully charged, and it has never been used. It is dry chemical type ABC. Is it okay to keep it a few more years, and how long should an extinguisher like this normally last?

I have a very old little house - all crooked, dugout, etc. - that is very cute but I'll never get out what I've already put into it (fireplace, new windows, laminate flooring etc). Now I would like to lay broken ceramic tile in the kitchen and bathroom. I can get the tile for free because it's chipped or broken and the mosaic looks great (I did it around my fireplace) and it hides the crookedness. However, I don't want to have to hire a carpenter and buy wood as a base - I want to do this on a tight budget. The tile sales person says there is a different cement I can use on a linoleum floor so I can just lay it over top. Apparently its much more expensive but it's available.
Because it's small pieces I don't think levelling is such an issue. On the other hand the linoleum is water discolored from a time when my washing machine broke. What do you think? Can I do it? Or should I lay wood first - I have to hire someone to do that - can't do that myself.

Hi I am restoring my first guitar. I have primmed it, painted it, and clear coated it. I am told I need to wet sand it and then buff it with a polish compound.

Can someone explain this method to me ????

I got a Lily for Easter and I really need to plant it. What is the best way? ie: direct sun, patial sun, morning sun, evening sun, soil type. I want to do this as soon as I can because I don't want it to die.

I live in an older home and recently the door's top hinge decided to give out. How can I repair this since the hole for the screws is stripped?

My brother is renting a flat and since being there a strong sweet odour has become noticable. There was an elderly man in there and we think he had urinal incontinence.

There is most likely old fibre underlay below the carpet. I am steam cleaning the flat this weekend and am hoping for some ideas, I was thinking along the lines of using cheap white vinegar in hot water as a rinse once I have done the carpet with the steam cleaning detergent.

Cheers and Thanks in advance,
Shona

I have a decent size pond. I have tried everything to keep the water clear, but still goes a murky green. All the inner walls have a green "fur" on it. It has been cleaned, painted with the correct paint, has a good pump, uv light, the pond plants have been potted in the correct pond soil. Am at a total loss as what else I can do!!

I would like to start using our garage as a work out room/recording studio for my husband. He only plays guitar for fun but has so much equipment that I can hardly get into my closet!
