Standard installation is a 12" rough in...after that, any style will suit. ( 12" rough in is 12 inches from back of toilet base to back wall....take this measurement with you when you get ready to buy a toyde)!!

There are 2 standard sizes of toilets. 10" rough and 12" rough. 12" is the standard used in most houses. The measurement is taken from the finished wall to the center of the bolts that hold the toilet to the floor. Toilet bowls are either round or elongated. Trapways can run from 1-1/2" to 2-3/8". A trip to Home Depot and seeing the display board on the wall will show this.

Sensible is right. The measurement is taken from the finished wall to bolts. There are still other things you could be talking about. The gallons per flush is sometimes a way of measuring. Also the height could be an issue. There is handicapped height and regular height. If you were a little more specific on what you are looking for, I can get you a little better answer. Good luck.

If you are interested in any dimension then go online to the manufacturer and call up a dimensioned drawing for that model number of toilet bowl.

The trapway size for modern low flush toilets (the only legal ones in the US nowadays) is 2 1/8", if that is what you want to know.

There are only 2 styles, round or oval. If your purchasing a new seat they are all standard sized. But again, it's round or oval.
