I have a strip of earth between the edge of my patio and a panel fence about 6 metres long and about 100mm wide. I would like to plant all along it and was wondering what would be nice plants to mix so that we get some colour from spring through to the end of the summer. I dont know that much about gardening and fancied buying some aubretia but they alone will only flower april to may. I am on a tight budget so ideally i would like to know plants that are very common so that i could pick them up cheaply. The area gets direct sun for a couple of hours in the morning and is then in shade, it is sheltered from the wind.I live in southern england. Thanks for your help

I would like to check out the wiring in my house in the US, and update it if needed. I have put in standard wiring in Italy, but I don't know what the code standards are in the US.

They are normally kept open at the coffee shop where I work but we shut them yesterday because we had a fireman come in to inspect our fire safety and we opened again after he had gone.

How do people get their laundry smelling so fresh?
I normally wash my clothes with Tide, put it in the dryer and take it out the next day and they have a faint smell of Tide. But when my friends washes a shirt of mine she borrows, and she washes it and returns, it has this strong fresh smell that i LOVE and that is distinctive and long-lasting. I've realized this with a few people, but this is just one example. Does YOUR laundry have a strong fresh scent? HOW DO YOU DO IT???

I have an older (probably 1980's) dryer which I am looking to replace. When I place my order on the Sears website, it asks if I want to purchase a new power cord. Shouldn't I be able to use the power cord from my old dryer? Or do I really need to buy a new one. I just figure that these sorts of things are universal. Thanks for the help.

I live in Australia and am surrounded by various eucalypts. I want to harvest leaves to make an essence to use for cleaning and to make my home smell nice. I tried chopping up leaves and then boiling them down, but the smell is gone by the next day. Any suggestions on how I can properly harvest to oils from the eucalypt leaves?

The temp is supposed to drop to near freezing this weekend, how do I protect my garden? It's been in the 70's and 80's since Feb here, so I planted my garden thinking it would be safe. I have 2 tomato plants, 2 pepper plants, some herbs, and a bunch of green bean plants. It's only going to be bad Sat and Sunday, and not a real hard freeze, lows are supposed to be about 32. Can I just throw a plastic drop cloth (thin plastic) over the plants? Any ideas are appreciated.

Some top loading clothes washers drain all the water before the spin cycle starts and others just start spinning with a full tub of water..

It would seem to me that not draining all the water before the tub starts spinning would produce more effective water extraction from the clothes

Every night, usually once, there is an extremely loud noise coming from, I believe, pipes in the wall. The sound is almost similar to a fog horn. Loud and droning, causing the walls to slightly vibrate. It usually only lasts twenty-five seconds or less. Can anyone identify what this noise is or at least list possibilities?

Long story short- I live with my boyfriend 22 and his friend 21. they are both equally messy and the boyfriend is getting better but the roommate is still a slob, and they dont clean up after themselves leaving me to the dishes, trash, dog/cat duty, laundry, vacuuming, and other cleaning.
I have tried.....
-Leaving all the mess except mine in hopes theyll get the hint: didnt work I just ended up doing 2hrs worth of housework for the mess they didnt clean for 2 weeks and no dishes to cook my own dinner on
-Bribing them saying pay me 40$/mo and Ill do all the cleaning: they became super slobs and wouldnt lift a finger to do ANYTHING
-Complaining non stop about what bothers me: works for a day then they seem to forget everything
I NEED HELP! I go to school fulltime and work part time and cannot be a part time maid as well! Im open to any and all suggestions!! And moving is not an option- lease isnt up til Sept

I live in an OLD house. (80 years) We put up a stockade wooden fence that is now ugly. I want to use a solid color stain on the fence to cover its ugliness. My house is greenish grey with white trim. I want to keep with the character of the house, BUT I don't have the desire to try to keep a white fence clean. (So white is out of the question). I was thinking of grey but didn't know if that seemed like an odd color. I have also considered like a barn red.
Oh yeah...my backyard is very small.
THanks for your advice!!

I am planning on moving into an apartment in June. I will be living on the first floor, but the air conditioner unit is on the roof of the thrid story. Will that cause problems cooling my apartment? Will that cause my unit to run overtime and raise my bill?? I don't want to pay an insane bill for a one bedroom!

How do I keep little "roller fuzzies" off of my walls?
I am using a polyester roller sleeve and latex paint.
Do I need to "break in" in a new sleeve?
How many times can you rinse and re-use a roller sleeve?

Hello all! I am a college student attending Eastern Michigan University, and I am about to move in one of the University's apartments- the Munson Apartments. I am wondering should I buy an air cooler? I do not think that my apartment building will let me use a window air conditioner so I was wondering does the air coolers work? Also, what price is a good buy? Thanks
