Of course some people will use any kind of paint for a radiator but it's not the best idea. Paint on a radiator gets hot. If the paint you use isn't specially for high heat, not only will the paint lift sooner or later, but you may get toxic fumes from your paint so it's important to use the right kind of paint. Here are some links to help you:

Ignore all this special paint chat, a diy place will try to sell your proper more expensive radiator paint, but normal gloss or matt paint will be fine. You can also get it in many colours.
Do NOT use water based emulsion though, they wont bond at all to your radiator.

It depends on what kind of radiator you are talking about. But I’d say you could get by with heat resistant paint. You also want to make sure it will resist water, cracking and dirt.
Just ask the salesman where you plan to buy the paint and you should do fine.

I would not use enamal paint as it is a multiple coat system which cuts down on the efficiency of your raditor. Normal Gloss or Eggshell is what the professional use, Eggshell looks like enamal and is very versatile. The trick is to give it a good key with P80 Grade sandpaper by rubbing lightly so you can see scratches. DO NOT rub back to expose metal as this will not take paint, you will then need metal primers.
Have fun!
