I have an older (probably 1980's) dryer which I am looking to replace. When I place my order on the Sears website, it asks if I want to purchase a new power cord. Shouldn't I be able to use the power cord from my old dryer? Or do I really need to buy a new one. I just figure that these sorts of things are universal. Thanks for the help.

Yes it will work just be careful when you have the screws almost out they are real small and if they fall down in the machine it wont be fun getting it out better yet just go buy a magnetic screwdriver takes care of that problem

You could use the old cord but it's not advisable and most likely against electrical codes in your area to do so.

I'd look at it this way. The cord is 20 years old. Except for an electric range or hot water heater, it probably uses the most electricity of anything in the house when its on. For the sake of less than $10, do I really want to take a chance on it failing?

Make sure you get the right kind. Older homes may have a 3 prong outlet. Newer homes have 4 prongs. You'll be able to use either but you must have a matching cord.

Yes, you can use the old one. This "marketing" thing took place many years ago to lower manufacturing costs. I really think they should inform you at the store where purchased, that you should disconnect the old cord before disposing of the appliance. Seems they want to save money and make money at the same time. From an environmental view, this is great, however, it should be their responsibility to let you know your options as far as the cord is concerned.

you can use your old power cord its connected to the back of your dryer by 3 screws. all you have to do is just take the screws out and put them on your new dryer they are all the same.... we just got a new whirlpool dryer and it hooked right up to the back

Yes. Write down the positions of the leads on the drier first, and connect them again the same way.
