Hi -
I am getting quotes for a new roof (tear off, asphalt shingles) - my problem is that every roofer quotes "different" - really different - 10/12 or 12/12 pitch? 38, 42, 43, or 52 square (2500 square foot ranch 2.5 att. gar, but complex roof) - ridge vent versus more cans versus 2 power fans - (I have a hip roof mostly) - so I don't have enough of a quorum to determine what I need.

My questions:

1) 15 versus 30 pound felt? which one, and why?
2) standard ice and water shield ($42) versus "high cost" ($120 / $160 a roll). Is it worth the premium?
3) Alum vs. galvanized flashing? Is there a gauge I should request in the quote so I don't get cheap flimsy stuff?
4) ridge versus cans - and how many soffit vents do I need - and should I baffle them? (if so, I can baffle them myself - attic is easy access w/blown in insulation). How about electric powered fans?
5) Point chimney installation versus "standard installation" - is it worth it?

Thanks for your help!!!!

My dog loves to stir up skunks. I don't know how to avoid this. I don't leave anything outside that they eat, that I know of. How do I keep them away?

Ok so last year I found out by comparing mounds online I had moles. So I bought a trapping system from molepros.com, but just tonight I was watering my yard and I found 4 fresh gopher mounds, cuz they have the c shape mound with that little plug in the middle. So what is the best option to get rid of them. I havent used my mole trap yet cuz I havent had to yet. I need help please.....I just laid down new grass and bought lots of new trees and shrubs yesterday, I dont want it all to die and waste my money on things that dont work right.

I'm looking for a piece of carpet that is going to be put over ceramic tile so that my 1 year old doesn't fall and hit his head if he falls off of the couch or when he falls down. This piece won't cover the whole room, but I need somewhere to cut me a piece to the exact shape I need to cover an odd shaped room. I do not plan on having it installed because we are renting and I can't ruin their nice flooring underneath. Where do I look for a piece of thick carpeting that can be cut to my exact measurements??

Also, what kind of carpet is VERY thick?

I'm building a retaining wall that well be about 4 feet high. I've built straight ones before and always used a string for a straight line. But with a curved wall what would be the best way to make sure it has a perfect curve to it? It will kind of be in the shape of a 6, but not as round or dramatic. So anyone have any ideas?

But, on another program it was shown that 90% of Fortune 500 C.E.O's had 'floor files' which in my small business I did, also. I found that with scores of projects going at the same time something important would fall through the cracks or, even worse, a new client would call and catch me off gaurd if I didn't have his/her file in front of me in order to refresh my memory-I might forget their name, I was so busy.
Making a 'goof' could cost me a lot of money or at the least make me very embarrassed.
But what I have going on now is a complete disaster.
I work at home with a small recording studio in my office and I cannot find things that will bring in money. In one situation all that needs to be done is put together a fax cover sheet and send in some paper work to receive a $500 re-imbursement. It sits right in front of me and has for months. I need the money.
While I get this together top send in coould someone please help.
Frank

Okay ... here's the thing! My front yard is a bunch of rocks!! It's terrible. I have huge, HUGE, rocks and little bitty pebbles that are annoying and driving me nuts. Well, I'm not very creative when it comes to landscaping and such. Can ya'll please give me some ideas on what to do with all of these. My husband says throw them in the neighbors yard! lol ... I can't do that. But we're going to try and get some grass growing here soon and I would like to use these rocks but not sure how ... any suggestions on how to use them creatively? Thanks! :o)

I remember the Chilton's labor guides in the auto repair industry - they are pretty much the standard a mechanic would refer to when determining the time it would take to do a particular job (replace a timing belt, water pump etc.) One of our family is starting a hope appliance repair service (at customer locations). Is there a standard labor guide to refer to in providing quote to a customer or is it just anything goes? (I'd much prefer to see some standard guide!). Besides being unfair to the customer, it would also be impractical in that one would have to already know about the labor time for every appliance, every brand, every model etc. There are thousand of 'em out there!
