How about a faux finish? It's very simple to do, and the result can be much prettier than just a tablecloth, or other quick cover. It will also still be accessible too.

I used a stone-textured faux finish on my cabinet - and it turned out great! There are many options in spray-paints available at Wal-Mart, Target, craft stores, etc.

On the how to: go to www.diynetwork.com and search DIY for faux-finished filing cabinet. They also have a great marble look too. Have fun!

Can it be moved so it's not visible from the living room? if not, how about a colorful poster of some kind; a travel poster, etc...or some type of artwork; preferably something that takes up most of the cabinet; you don''t want a bunch of artwork of different sizes on it...at least that way when you see it, you'll have something besides the metal to look at!!!

Contact paper is a good way to change the finish on something of that type- and it comes in so many different patterns now, marble-looking in colors of gray/black/silver or green/white/lite green, or even a wicker type of look or floral. I use contact paper to cover up an ugly coffee table, or end table, cabinets in the garage my computer desk top was scratched up and I covered it with contact paper- give it a try! They sell it at Wal-mart and hardware stores!
