Give your cabinets a good cleaning with TSP, a very strong powdered cleaning product. I'm not sure what you mean by the paint rusting...
When the cabinets are completely clean, you can decide what you want to do...paint, revarnish, etc.
I just painted my wooden kitchen cabinets. It is a very time consuming job, but well worth the effort.

You can strip the old paint off and repaint them, strip and leave a wood finish, or varnish the wood. It depends on what you like or want to do. You can sand the old paint and paint over it too. Time Life pt out some pretty good do-it-yourself books that'll give you a good idea of how to do it and what's involved. By the way, I don't think paint can rust.

The darker the wood the lighter you may bypass to hold out the cabinets and the remainder of your kitchen. i think of a faded yellow colour might look prefect alongside with your darkish o.ok.cabinets. Yellow does not in simple terms make it look greater useful, it would additionally make your kitchen greater comfortable and heat. to illustrate: in case you had those darkish cabinets after which you used a dismal paint colour, like brown, your kitchen might look bland and have not any heat temperature. yet with a lighter colour, you may carry out the colour of the cabinets and create heat temperature. stable good fortune and function exciting! :0)
