When we bought the house we got the central vacuum roughins to make it easier for when we purchased a central vac. We installed all the pipes now and I was going to do the wiring today and noticed that throughout the house the wiring for the central vac is TELEPHONE wire.

Do I need to change the wire? or can I just pick two colors and wire them up? Our central vac runs off of the normal plug for the vacuum head ... but I guess the wiring in the wall/roughin is to turn the vacuum on when the tube is inserted into the wall....

Anyone able to give me some feedback or insight would be much appreaciated.... Thank You

I am not very good at sewing, but I do have an old machine and a little practive. I bought a prom dress that i am going to make into a halloween costume, but it is a little too small in the bust.

How do I let the seams out so that it is about 1/2" bigger?

How do you keep it from looking bad where the other seam was?

Are there going to be lots of little holes?

It is a normal, strapless, A-line dress, and I am going to add red ribbons that go from the wasit over the top and down to the waist again to look like suspenders (I will wear a belt too), so should I "let it out" at the princess seams so that the ribbons will cover it?

Or is there a general rule like you let it out on a major seam like under the arms or at the zipper?
Thanks!

In my back yard I have a wooded area that I'd like to keep weeds & thorn bushes from growing in.
I have been raking the leaves from my property, and dumping them in the back to prevent the brush from growing.
Are there any draw backs to dumping leaves like this?

My son's 4 wheeler leaked gas in our basement. We have indoor/outdoor carpet and have tried cleaning with soap and water. We have also opened all the windows in the basement and the smell of gas is still there. Is there anything else I can do?

We are interested in waterproofing the cellar in our flat which is on the ground floor of a 1870s built South London terraced house (for which we own half of the freehold). We want to use the room for computer equipment / storage of papers etc which the current dampness even with dehumifier doesnt allow.

The cellar is under the house's hallway and is 6 x1.85metres in size and just under 2 metres high.

From reading answers on here it seems we need to 'tank' the cellar to make it waterproof but how much is this likely to cost us? And would we be able to paint straight on or will it require a layer of plaster? The floor also will probably require levelling. And will we need planning permission - the house is in a conservation area but others in the street have had it done. Job wise will it require a specialist or are general builders ok?

Apologies for the multiple questions but I would like to have an idea of rough costs/ procedures before calling in builders for quotes

I brought my British (240volts)Dyson vacuum cleaner over here to Canada (110 volts) and I need the correct power converter to make it work. My laptop, camera and mobile phone all plug straight into the mains, so I can keep in touch. My hi-fi already has a power converter so music is no problem. However, my carpet is lacking in care (except for the daily brushing with an electric Bex Bissell thing which only takes the dust off the surface). This is my last desperate attempt to get my Dyson working before I have to go and buy a new one. Please help!

Recently moved into a new home and outside, at the side of the house, are a row of flowers. I believe them to be the Bird of Paradise with the red flower. Seems they were not taken care of and the leaves are dried out and some are laying across the walk way. I started to clean out a corner and cut some of the bad ones back to a stem...then I realized what if they dont grow back? Can you prune these back? How do you care for them?

We can only flick the switch if the shower is turned on, otherwise it sparks!
Seems to work for a couple of uses and then flick off again.
Is it a fuse issue (although we haven't changed it)?
Getting very annoying, but also, scared it might be dangerous!

I want to remove it and use the area as a cloakroom. The plumber has disconnected the water and now all I have to do is remove it. What do I do with the hole that's left? I dont think I want to close it off permanantly incase I ever change my mind and want a toilet in there again. Want it out for now though as it's taking up valuable storage space.

I never fully understood the purpose of the holding tank in a well system. This is the tank with 28 PSI for 30/50 pressure switch that has the bladder in it. How does it come into play for the proper function of the well? thanks

There is a naughty squirrel in the neighbourhood who is ripping up my lawn to bury his food.
I have tried going out afterwards and removing the food, he comes back and digs up more lawn.
I have a cat repellent transmitter that lets of a loud screech to deter cats from destroying the garden, but it doesn't seem to work for the squirrel.
I'm in the u.k so i do not have access to guns or explosives before I get tons of killing suggestions.

Anyone got any humane ways to rid this naughty creature?
