i work in finance, which i think is pretty good.
i suppose being a doctor is better. or a guitarist.

In todays world the most respected fields are the one's that bring in the most money really. They are also the one's that require knowledge that is specific to that field which you can only obtain though special training. The reason why I start off with money is because it is the only direct measure of sucess in the country at least. This knowledge is not easy to obtain neccessarily and many people don't have the mental amplitude to go though. The Eng field, Scientific field, Computer Field are examples. In the Medical field the only real respected position is that of a Doctor. There are so many positions in the md field that it's really hard to distinguish.

Actually I read the national 2006 list of most respected jobs. The most respected are Nurses, And the least respected were Radio DJ's. Kinda funny to me, because in 2002 I was a radio DJ, and Now I am A registered Nurse.

I would have to say Artist must rank as one of the highest.
I think an Artist is looked upon by others as being outside the normal rules of any other profession.

Doctor yes.
Guitarist - no. Same level as 2nd hand car salesman or lawyer.
Teacher is also a good one.
Priest used to be good until they discovered that the priests were shagging all the altar boys.
