My son's 4 wheeler leaked gas in our basement. We have indoor/outdoor carpet and have tried cleaning with soap and water. We have also opened all the windows in the basement and the smell of gas is still there. Is there anything else I can do?

How long has it been that the gas was spilled. Start with a Fan to dry the carpet and since gas evaporates then start with the clean up the longer the carpet is wet the longer the smell will stay. I would try after it is dry some arm and hammer baking soda sprinkled heavily on it give it a few days to soak in and then vacuum it up, then try some of the Fabreze for animals and strong Oder. If that does not work then go back to the soda. Water and petroleum products do not mix so stay away from wet it just makes more mess. The only thing that might help if you want to try before it is dry is Dawn dish Soap they use it on oil spills and and gas is an oil product.

Gas is very difficult to get out,I suggest you put new carpet down where this happened and that will fix the smell.

short of lighting a match...not really. Seriously, you may do best in first removing the carpet and tossing it, then getting the concrete professionally cleaned.
