My cousin has discovered mice in her house. A whole family of them it seems. Traps have been set, but we wondered what is the ONE BEST SPECIFIC FOOD ITEM to trap them with. The mice seem to like the cat food that has been placed inside the traps, but I heard peanut butter works best. However, is it a good idea to change the food item we've been using once mice have been caught? Would they "suspect" something is up if the food item is changed?

I have carpet in all rooms except the kitchen and bathroom, and I estimate it to be as old as the house.(45 years old). The area to do is about 775 sq. ft. I lifted part of the carpet and there is 1/2" of white foam over a sub floor. The floor squeaks in many places and my bf says we will need to hammer or screw the boards. Which is better for that ? Any other things I need to consider? Thanks in advance.

My in-laws have just purchased the property adjacent to ours, and upon inspecting the premesis yesterday, we found what looked to be a chestnut lying on the ground. I have no idea how to tell the difference between the two, and I know that humans cannot eat buckeyes. If this is a true chestnut tree, then we will keep it. If not, and it is a buckeye tree, we know we can cut it down. I just dont want to waste delicious chestnuts, if thats what they really are.

We have a 237 year old house with 24" wide, 2" thick floors and ceilings, post and beam built. We are beginning to remove the ceilings to expose the beams but are finding old nestings and very BAD odors in sections of the wood. The planks are irreplaceable and even if we did replace them, the expense would be enormous! Any ideas or products that would get deep into the woodgrain and remove the smell?

I'm not sure which type of dye to use to dye the loose covers from my two sofas. The material is a thick quality cotton. Someone suggested dye that you use in washing machine, how would you ensure they were all the same colour as I would have to do 3-4 loads. The suite is a primrose yellow, ideally I wanted cream but obviously that will not work so I thought maybe a brown/beige colour. I am in England so please no answers suggesting foreign products.
Thank you.

Our kitchen sink faucet sprays water from the top seam before the spray head. It makes a huge mess. Will simply replacing a washer fix this situation or is it time to get a new faucet for the sink? If fixable, please explain how. Thanks.

I would like to get some new wall-to-wall carpet for our family room. What is the best type? Most durable? Easiest to clean? I have a small child (crawler) and a cat (sheds). I intend to put an area rug over part of the area to break up the space. The previous carpet was destroyed by our former dog. Dog is no longer with us. Thanks! The room is used daily.

We need cabinet knobs for every single cabinet & drawer in our house (kitchen, 2 bathrooms, laundry room) because the people who lived there before us destroyed all of them to the point of no return & as you know it can be very expensive to purchase all those & we are on a VERY VERY tight budget. I was wondering if anybody knew where to get cabinet knobs (doesn't particuarly matter what they look like, can be very plain) for around 50 cents or less each? I really need help & have already looked at all of the home improvement store & they do not have any that cheap, all are close to a dollar which is way too much for us to afford. Does anybody know of any websites? I'd really appriciate all of the help & thank you in advance!
