I would like to get some new wall-to-wall carpet for our family room. What is the best type? Most durable? Easiest to clean? I have a small child (crawler) and a cat (sheds). I intend to put an area rug over part of the area to break up the space. The previous carpet was destroyed by our former dog. Dog is no longer with us. Thanks! The room is used daily.

I would go for a light tan or beige berber carpeting. It wears well and looks fabulous. And it accomodates area rugs well

I would put down tiles, if you are going to put a area rug down. But I personally would check out the indoor/outdoor carpeting they have lots of patterns to choose from, and easy to clean.

I would go with hardwood floors, I was you, because it is the easiest to keep clean, and put the area rug where your kid crawls around (they are cheap and easy to replace after spills/throw-ups etc from your kid)

If it has to be carpet, get a multi colored one, where you don;t see everything, otherwise you will be going nuts trying to keep it clean.

You should get sculptured berber carpet, with some various colors in it. The berber wears well and the different colors to hide little imperfections.
