I like Stone Cleaner by TIleLab because it is inexpensive, easy to obtain (home improvement stores carry it) and it is a easy to use spray on application. It does a great job removing soot, stains from ash, etc. without clouding or damage to the stone.

Just make sure you don't use ANYTHING that has an acid in it or it will be a disaster. Acid eats marble as it is an alkeline (as chalk is).

Acid + Alkali = salt + water

Don't use any bathroom products that are advertised as removing limescale (acid)

AWMYGOD....

Believe it or not I'll also go for WD40, it will also take off any black marks off vinyl flooring & stop your bathroom mirrors from steaming up.
