they make a non-slip matting that goes under rugs. can be bought at any walmart-like store.

there is some specific tape that you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowes, that goes under the rug, and adheres to the floor without "sticking" to the floor. This will make the rug stay in place. It works very well.

If the rug is on a carpet - this is called "Carpet Creep" and is due to the lie of the pile in the underlying carpet. To fix this, try glueing or sewing a couple of long strips of Velcro hooks onto the back of the rug - this should keep it in place.
If the hall is NOT carpeted, and has a hard floor - tiles or lino for example - try fixing strips of soft rubber on the back of the rug to accomplish the same result.

Velco strips (comes on a roll) You can get at any arts-and-craft store or fabric store.

One part goes on the floor and one on the back of the rug. Works like a charm.

Any home improvement store sells carpet tape which is very good to hold rugs down and very easy to take up when you need to without leaving sticky marks.

if you have a wood floor, nail done the 4 corners of the rug. home stores have slip mats that y0u put under the rug so it won't slide. they come in many differant sizes and they aren't too expensive.

Go to Linens and Things and buy anti skid piece....it's usually rubber and goes under most of the rug and keeps it from slipping.

Go to your local diy shop and get some rug gripper stuff, you stick it onto the back of the rug and it holds it in place.

You can buy rubber mats to put under rugs - usually in shops that sell the rugs!

Nip to your local DIY store. they sell special double sided webbed tape that is specifically for this problem! My mum uses it on her rug/laminate floor and i works a treat! Much better to go buy a roll than break your neck on a sneaking rug!
