Sometimes the bulbs are not mature enough to produce flowers especially if you are getting "bargain" bulbs. If you want flowers the first year it usually pays to buy premium bulbs. Time will solve this situation.

If the bulbs you got were what you felt were good sized then one of two things happened. They either go too much nitrogen which forced a lot of vegetative growth at the expense of reproductive (flower) growth. The other possibility is they did not get enough phosphorus--the nutrient that initiates flowering. You can address this situation with a 5-10-5 fert. (It doesn't have to be these exact numbers--this is just an example.) You want to have a higher middle number (P) than first number (N).

sometimes it takes a year or two before they bud and bloom, better luck next year.
