Yes ,you can take down. In fact would be a good idea, as they attract lighting strikes. DO NOT ,do this your self, you'll need plenty of help, three or more. You have to be careful there's no electrical wires around ,any where near that it could hit on it's way down .You could be electrocuted .Answer to that is :GET AN EXPERT !

Unless the atenna is being used, there is no real reason to keep it up.
I went cable as soon as the technology was avaialble because its always been better resolution.
I know one friend who had a really big antenna that used to be for tv , but when he bought the place, it used the atenna for other non-tv communication related...
Ham Radio or similar I guess.
Not all antennas are easy to remove ... most are though.

If it is your house, take it down.
why would you need permission?
Cut the wire where it goes into your house,
Go inside and pull it out and throw it away. seal the hole.
Your neighbors will probably like you for reducing the eye pollution.
Where I live, you can't put up antennas

Yes, you can take it down as long as you don't use your antenna for your local channels. They aren't very difficult to take down but I would suggest having a buddy or two give ya a hand.
