I have been hiding from life for ten years. I just realized that I turn down invitations, dont do anything but work and sleep. I use neck pain from a wreck as an excuse. After my baby died, my best friend died from cancer, my house burned down, I was audited by the irs, my husband and I divorced, and I cant seem to make myself do things. I cant make myself go ouside the house, or go to parties, or family functions. I dont wear make up anymore or fix my hair or take care of myself like I should. I am not going to bump myself off but I am missing out on life. Does anyone know someone that could really help me deal with what ever is bothering me? Please only serious answers, no jokes or insults on this one, I a very serious. Thanks

My 16-yr-old daughter has been diagnosed with chronic depression. Caused by hormone imbalance. She's on Paxil and sees a counselor & doctor, but she still has some really bad days during the time of her period. She talks about wanting to cut herself to release her anger. Doesn't want to journal when she is extremely irritated. Does she just want to see my reaction (I deal with it calmly), or will she really start injuring herself? It seems like she's influenced by what she's seen and heard regarding self-injury that makes her want to try it. We usually have a good family relationship, so we are at a loss on how to help her. She's also getting to the point of resenting anyone in authority - - - such as teachers, principal, parents, grandparents. In the past few years, she has went from being an angel to struggling with inner demons. Should I switch counselors? Should I just give her some space? What can I do to make things better?

Psychic is a term that I think is colloquially misused. Well, only when used as in "psychic power". The word psychic, in psychology, means pertaining to mental phenomena. Its rootword is "psyche" which means "self" or "soul".

I think what we call "psychic powers" should rather be "psychic abilities" because these things are not powers. They are innate abilities of our inner self and our mind. We only need a deeper understanding, focus, and practice to use these. However, in some studies, people who have psychic abilities are the ones who usually have brain tumors...

Now to my personal experience....

Well, I'm a 23 year old male virgin studying Psychology at Stanford - I remember learning in my Psych Class that people who aren't in (or who never had) any intimate relationships cut short their life span by about 15-20 years. Is their any way around this (besides getting a gf)? I have never been in any kind of relationship throughout my life. I want to live as long as I can while remaining a virgin and it angers me to know that I'll die earlier just because I'll be a single virgin. I know that I'll never get into or want to get into an intimate relationship but I'm sure that I will want to eventually have two children by adoption (or cloning if legalized). Can a single guy adopt children?

Is it actually true that male virgins older than 20 are looked down at? I'm an agnostic.

Anyways, any tips any of you have would be great. I just want to live as long as I can.

My situation...I'm a single mom of a baby; her dad is out of the picture and doesn't pay child support; His family also doesn't care about her;
I'm an only child; very poor body image; suffering from depression/emotional problems; brink of losing my sanity;
my mom is controlling, overbearing etc; she's divorced; don't see my dad much; don't know my other relatives cause they live very far away and they're not in my life; I have really bogus "friends";

Rejected/ignored/teased/disrespected... by many, many people since I was a teen.

An acquaintance once told me "sucks to be you". Am I a loser? What can I do NOT to feel this way?
ONLY SERIOUS REPLIES PLEASE

When I was a little girl, I through tantrums. One day, I was crying and my daddy brought me to a mental health emergency center. He talked to one of the workers and the workers gave me a stern, hard look like I committed a murder (like I was a criminal.)

Why does this traumatize me so much? Everytime I think of it I tremble. :(

I do not express any type of emotion when people die, I do not cry or anything. When someone that is close to me dies, I feel the same and I kind of shrug it off. But my uncle was murdered in late August-early September, and I started acting really weird and angry. And I possibly lost a friendship because I was treating them unfairly ( I was pretty rude to them). I regret what I did, but I no longer feel angry anymore. Is it possible that I took out all of my anger on him?

It saddens me to see people who lie constantly. It is such a let down..I can't help but think that the reason they do it, is because of their own feelings of insecurity...Now I don't mean, 'stretching' the truth, or embelleshing on things..I mean, flat out lying about their circumstances,...lying about how terrible their lives are for pity...anything that tugs at your heart strings to manipulate you, and then you find out that they were a wolf in sheeps clothing...Why do you think they lie? Besides it being a terrible sin,...???

I know a man who is in his 30s, he lives with his mother, and is a musician. He spends pretty much all his time with music related activities, going to shows, writing music, playing music, listening to music, etc. He is also VERY involved with computers. He is unemployed besides his music. He has a few male friends, mostly music related, but he has not had a girlfriend in years and very rarely dates, though he is interested in women. So from how this sounds may he have some sort of mild asperger's?
