Try meditiation. Close your eyes and take 20 deep breaths. Also, when a panic attack happens, just slowly calm yourself down. Don't panic because you're having an attack, that'll just make it worse.
Remember, whatever may be causing the panic attacks is far more simple than you're making it out to be. It isn't a matter of life or death.

Take 3 deep breathes and let them out slowly. Then consider this: There is no quick cure for panic & anxiety.
However, it is manageable. As scary as it may be no one dies. Learning to face the fears and taking small
" steps " is effective in most cases of reducing and eventually elimininating the episodes. Getting together with other people who have similar reactions and and sharing how they are effectively making progress can be very helpful. If the panic and anxiety has a chemical basis in the brain, medication is helpful in reducing stress. Consider an M.D. for assistance. Good luck.

Medication only helps ease the symptoms. I have the same problem as you and the only thing that worked for me was to go and do the things that I was afraid of. Take your medication though because it does help. Just hang in there and try to get out more. It's OK if you can't do it all at once. Just take it one step at a time, and remember it does get better!
Good Luck!!!!
DON'T DRINK IT MAKES THE ANXIETY WORSE!
I know this from personal experience.

I have had only 2 panic and anxiety attacks and the last one I thought I was actually having a hear attack. Two of my doctors told me it was from stress in my life. My counselor taught me how to keep most stress out of my life and I am taking medication to prevent it.
The counselor told me that if I am feeling stressed to just ask myself if there is anything I can do about the situation and if there isn't to just forget it. Sometimes we worry about things that we have no control over.
I have developed the philosophy that "God has given me today and I should make the best of it, yesterday is gone and it can never be taken back and if there is something I can do to make amends then do it, the last is that God still holds tomorrow in the hollow of His hands." When I feel myself starting to get stressed I pray that I can make it just one second or one minute at a time and just deal with that.
Stress in my life has caused me to developed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, followed by Fibromyalgia and then led to Lupus. Take care of yourself, because none of these health problems are any fun to have and can be debilitating. So don't get started.

Hon, I can relate with you....and like you, for years I did nothing about the panic/anxiety attacks....I am spiritual and didn't wanna get hooked on some medication....but honey, anxiety and panic attacks can eventually reak havoc on your whole body AND mind...there are hundreds of meds out there...I have tried many to no avail but then I found a good doctor that knew alot about anxiety and panic disorder (which is what I have) and she finally worked with me enough that she put me on a tranquilizer called diazepam (valium) of 5-10 mg per day as needed...and once I started taking them, the panicky feelings and anxiety went away...like you, I too suffered the same symptoms....and it is not fun.....Hon....I would sum this up and just suggest that you see a doctor.....however, there are herbs that can and may help with anxiety as well, and one of the best I found was Valerian Root....this is "natural Valium"...I take this too, but on a bad day I have to take a valium.....good luck dear....god bless....!

I can empathize with you, panic attacks are horrible. I use to get them as well and I remember having a few at work which was not pleasant. The only thing I can tell you is I finally agreed to go on medication. I talked myself out of it so many times but in the end, I was getting them more frequently. Medication isn't fun to take but sometimes it can be your only alternative. For me, its the only thing that helped. Also, maybe you can speak with your Dr about your concerns. Lots of luck to you.

i've been through that due to my OCD disorder AHHHH so I know the feeling. My answer to you is that sometimes it'll just be unavoidable...it's sucky but ya can't halt it every time. I find that my attacks have calmed tremendiously since I've been doing yoga/ meditation. Deep breathing and staying focused on a hobby regularly will also improve anxiety. I release tension like i said through yoga, sometimes jogging, and other times hobbies like reading or painting.

Deep breathing works miracles. THE technique that rid me of them forever:
* Take a deep breath while counting to seven.
* Hold it in for a count of seven.
* Exhale to the count of seven.
repeat as long as you want to until your calmness is restored.
Do this and they'll happen less and less and may go away completely. Mine did. It's really amazing! So many panic attacks are simply triggered by the fear that one may happen. The instant you start to feel stressed try this technique and enjoy the calm you can create by controlled breathing.
It's gonna be OK~ You can do it
Just breathe
:)

I really feel for you! i have dealt with anxiety and panic attacks for about 4 years now, the doctors say it was a result of the trauma of losing my mom 20 years ago and my grandfather 4 years ago. I know that it feels like you are dying, it is a very scary illness! i can understand you are wary about medicines, but please know that the only thing that helped me were antidepressants, i tried everything else, to no avail, i barely left my house for a full year. I started on antidepressants, and yes, it was a rough road, but i can tell you, thanks to them i now live a normal life and feel like a normal person, i still take them everyday and i feel great! i still get the odd panic attack but i now can control them, please email me if you need any advice or help!

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
