As an ex-smoker now for a little over a year, I can honestly say I wish I had never started smoking. I quit for my health and for the health of the people I love. I wanted to be around to see my son grow up and wanted to see my grandchildren. Even though I've been quit for about a year and a half, I still crave a cigarette from time to time. Especially after a big meal or during an especially stressful situation. On the other hand, I really enjoy the extra money I now have in my pockets and the clean smell of my house and my clothes. I also enjoy being able to walk up a hill without huffing and puffing. If I had never started, though, I would not have had to go through the torture of quitting, and neither would I know how good a puff could feel and would, therefore, not have the cravings I still have!! Cigarette smoking is as powerful an addiction as any other drug and if you don't smoke, don't start!

Although I quit 10 years ago, I think I earned the right to answer this question by being a smoker for over 30 years! I started when I was 12 years old and quit briefly many times due to frequent bouts with bronchitis and in the later years stomach ulcers. Aside from all the medical consequences tho, the thing that makes me regret it most is the suffering I went through while quitting. As I said I quit ten years ago, but the first five of those years I always felt like a smoker that wasn't smoking, i still craved a cigarette! Thankfully, finally after five years i completely lost the urge to smoke and am free of the desire but if I could have avoided all the misery involved..........if you are thinking of starting, think twice, It isn't only the physical addiction that has to be dealt with, it is also the psychological which is ten times worse!

cant believe im a smoker!! Up untili was 16 i was so anti-smoking it was unbelievable, i wouldnt even let my mum or best friend smoke in front of me It all went bad when i started dogging skool and took up smoking as a result of boredom and wanting to fit in. I would give anything to turn back the clock and never have had that first ***. Whats so good about being breathless, stinking of ashtrays and basically burning money... NOTHING
I have tried to give up loads of times and think it is the hardest thing I have ever done. I dont smoke in the house as my son has asthma, but still i sit in the freezing cold just to get a fix of nicotine, how sad is that!! One day i will be able to fight this addiction and would never condone smoking as it is a dirty habit.

I definately wish that I had never started!!! Nicotine is a terribly addictive drug. I have tried to stop so many times and failed for a number of reasons such as: I tend to eat more to replace lighting up, therefore I put on weight; dont know what to do with my hands, so I cant find enough things to do to replace my smoking habit. Also, when you go 'cold turkey' you develop a cough and a sore throat, and you get irritable....to name but a few. Smoking is also an expensive habit.
Save your money and your good health.....NEVER take up smoking!!!
EASY TO START, AND HARD OR NEAR ON IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP!!!!!!!!!

ooohhhh yes i can defiantly say from the bottom of my heart i really wish i never started smoking! (she says while gladly puffing away) Ive been a smoker for more than half my life when i think about it. it kind of starts as a trend then the claws dig in and get a hold of you it really is a evil drug nicotine so hard to give up it has to come from within to give up no ammount of alternative therapies will combat the cravings enough, willpower is the only tool you have when gets down to nitty gritty! you have to keep telling yourself your not going to be beaten and see it as a challenge,two things i will say: 1)DON'T START! 2)IF YOU SMOKE NEVER QUIT TRYING TO QUIT!

Just given up and wish i could still smoke - but without the smell, high price and health risks. I guess I just miss lighting up with a nice cold pint in the pub.

More then anything in the world, I wish I'd never started. My mother was diagnosed in May from cancer caused by smoking and I still haven't been able to quit.

Im an ex smoker (almost 8 years) and all the time I smoked I regretted that fist ciggie when I was 10...just to be "big" in front of the other kids.
Its just not worth it...;

Yea, i sooooooo wish i never started. With the constant pressure of finding the money to fund it and the constant going down to the garden whenever i want a ciggie and having to wash, change clothes, brush teeth whenever i come back into the house and having to wear a rediculas hat to prevent the smoke clinging to my hair (because i have a baby and dont want to expose him to my shitt.y habit) its just to much hassle, i plan to quit but i am just not strong enough. :(
