Mental Health - October 2006

We learned in Abnormal Psych about Malingering, and it was basically when people lie to gain drugs, money, attention, or some other personal gain. I thought it was a joke...I mean who would take that seriously? Why can't a therapist just tell a patient they are lying, instead of "malingering"?

What kind of self-control method can be helpful when you're having anger driven thoughts that make your heart beating fast? I usually keep my anger under controlled but time to time, there's a situation arised that makes me feel unfairly treated. Usually it follows with paranoia. Once it starts, it's hard to keep it down for a few days. It's a bit different from anxiety. But it's not something that's too devouring to treat with medication. Is there any good method to regain one's cool back to find a peace of mind after racing trip to paranoia?

I started out taking 80mg of Geodon every day. The doctor reduced me to 60mg then 40 mg. Since then I have stop seeing my doctor and waiting on the VA to call me for induction to their medical treatment. I have been on the last refill and only taking 40mgs EVERY other day. I noticed on the nights I don't take it I stay up til 2am. And the next day I will be very irritable. On the nights I do take it I go to sleep around 8 pm. When I did take it I noticed I had to take it at 6:00 pm. If I took it any earlier I was anxious. Any later and I couldn't go to sleep until later then I would be tired the next day. One thing about it is I allot of bad dreams or allot of times I wake up cause I know its a dream. So I don't sleep well. But it does seem to make me think clearly.

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to deal with anxiety on your own. Maybe some self help technique's. I dont really want to take the medicine they give me, because im very afraid of side effects. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Maybe a story of your battle with anxiety. Thank You

I had an ex boyfriend who was like totally crazy, what does this sound like to you? He always had extreme mood swings. One time his friend was joking around with him and he whipped a full bottle of soda at his head for no reason. He was a compulsive cleaner, however nbot a very good one. We'd hang out in his garage and he'd freak out and start vacuuming things with his shop vac and like throw stuff everywhere it was really weird like hed do it right in the middle of a party.! When som,eone would beat him in a videogame hed want to fight them,mind u this kid is like 20! whats up with him?

I have been taking Effexor Xr for several months and I have no sexual desire and it's causing probs for me and hubby. I assume this side effect won't be going away. Also, how do you feel on Effexor XR............. does anyone feel energized or motivated at all? I kinda feel like i have a heavy weight that is sitting on top of my head. My mind doesn't feel clear at all. Please share your experience on effexor XR.

to the opposite sex. to be unnattractive to girls. fills me with abject terror. im a 29 year old male. i look at girls on the net or outside and nearly want to cry because i think i could never get anyone like her, im not worthy of her...my self worth is dibilitating to. its horrible feeling to feel attracted to a girl, and no they wont like you, or reject you, or you couldnt be capable of getting her. ive been single most of my life. ilook at some girls and think most of them probally require high expectations or to even have a guy with confidence at least, any other guy see wat i mean?

I'm 23. I smoked weed between the ages of 15 and 20. For 2 of these years I smoked weed at least 3-4 times a day at times it could go to 8-10 times a day. I was very depressed at the time.
Although 3 years on and those problems are long gone now.

But my moods are uncontrolable. Sometimes I get up feeling great and other times absolutely ****. I'm sometimes motivated and sometimes not. I feel like I don't know if I should go left or right. I gradually go between being a optimist and a pessimist, back and forth. Almost like different personalities or aspects of myself. I constantly think and analyze in my mind. Ruminating rather then doing something. I feel comfortable one day and uncomfortable with myself the next.

I was wondering if anyone who has smoked cannabis regularly before has experienced the same. I know they say that schyzophrenia is a side effect but I don't think what I've got is that severe. I still consider myself kinda normal and not too weird.

but another thing which i feel seperates me from other guys my age is that i have two teeth missing at the front bottom lower teeth, and my natural appearance is dark brown looking black which i dont like. so, i dye my hair a real light golden blonde and because i have a beard, full beard, i dye that to, because i dont like its natural dark colour. especially now i have my hair golden blonde which im content with even though im balding..problem is alot of the time i feel like a freak and on my own having these phsycall traits, plus i dont like the way im ageing, i feel on my own having these physicall traits, every other guy i see my age has a full set of teeth, is clean shaven, or if they do have a beard, its not dyed and their happy with their natural colour..i dont like being clean shaven because i dont like the way i look. i wanna no is there any other guy out there like me, who has the traits i do but is happy and lives successfully?? because i feel odd and the only one

Last year, I was forced to seek professional help and all they did was shove medicine down my throat (which actually COMPOUNDED my problems) and demand $20 per bullsh!t session.
