Television is killing the human spirit for sure! I had to block out all channels on mine, I just use it for movies now. Commerical TV depresses me.

definately and most of them don't even realise it.
people are focusing on things that really have no meaning. We can't even parent our own children anymore.

If it's not killing the human spirit it sure is killing a lot of peoples feet! Thank goodness I have a sit down job. I can't even imagine what people have to go through standing up on their feet 8 and 9 hours a day. It's ridiculous how certain employer can't purchase those hi stools at a lot of these jobs where people can sit and do their jobs at the same time. I think the employers do it out of meanest because they're so ornery. But that's OK, because when you run across an evil person that gets off on killing the human spirit, pretty much of nothing will go right in their life either. It's just plain and simple Karma!

You can be sure for some people out there it is indeed killing the(ir) human spirit. However there are others out there whose human spirt is thriving due to the rat race. You can be sure human spirits are going up and being shot down everyday. Probably a fair degree of that human spiritual movement will follow a money trail. Those losing the money probably tending to lose the spirit... etc and so on.
Maybe not. Who needs human spirit anyway.. the PS3 is coming out soon... the graphics are sure to kickbutt over all that old fashion spirit generated graphical interface anyway. That stuff is so last year. And the PS3 should hold me till the next distraction comes out.

I'm not a rat and I'm not in a race. The only time I was racing is when I was in track and I'm to old for that. I think we choose whether or not we want to be part of that crowd. You choose your job, actually you choose every aspect of your life. If you choose to live a low stress, care free lifestyle, then that is what you have. I don't carry a cell phone. I don't live beyond my means. I don't race around with 50 million things to do day after day. I live simply and live a heathy active lifestyle. My spirit is burning bright. I don't feel empty inside. I am full of life!

It depends on the person. If you are pessimistic, and are in a job you hate, then it is more likely that the 'rat race' will get you down personally, and be truly spirit crushing. However, if you enjoy your job, then you are less likely to get depressed.
I was in a job I hated a few months ago, and when I left my boyfriend said that even though I was unemployed (my follow-up job fell through), I was much happier in myself.

I'm so sick of the fact that, since I'm female, I have to be perfect in every way. I have to wear a size 2. I have the have eyebrows that arch three inches over my eyes.
I can't have one hair out of place.
Oh, and forget about have an eye disease and having to ask people for rides a few times a week. You would think I was asking them to donate their eyes to me.

yes and no. the rat race is pretty screwed up, but i think it's rich white fat lazy hateful American culture that is killing off our spirit. the only downside to this is, we are all too fat, lazy, and hateful to do anything about it. STOP WATCHING SO MUCH DAMN TELEVISION!!!!!! you will feel more spiritual, my friend.

I believe you are right because when you look at the U.S. 'standard of living' (SOL) index, it has gone up (more wealth and stuff); however sense 1974 the 'quality of life' (QOL) index has gone down (time with friends and family and home).
