Its not a good thing to just stop, you should see your doc and get the doasge reduced and be weaned off them else your depression could return. Best to speak to your doc.

I think it is not really right to advise without the full facts.
Why were you in hospital?
Were they giving you other drugs?
Was it replaced later?

The best thing that you need is professional advice.
I would recommend making an appointment with your doctor to discuss what happened and why. They probably had to make a judgement based on risk. I find that most pharmacists are happy to give advice as well when they are not too busy.

If you think you have cause to complain about your treatment in the NHS I would consider seeing a solicitor for an initial interview to assess the situation. You could also go to the Citizens Advice Bureau

Yes, once you've cured the depression with cognitive therapy. Since no medication in the world can or ever will cure depression, you might want to look into CT. There are many other ways to treat depression naturally, too. Unfortunately, I can no longer post the links to the appropriate sites because some idiot keeps turning me in for spam and advertisement even though I make no money from these very informative sites. Imagine.

did your doctor order the medication to be stopped? my psychiatrist and pharmacist have warned me warned me NOT to stop, cold turkey, any of the three anti-depressants i'm on. you need to be slowly weined off ANY psychiatric drug. to have the drug taken away, without anything to substitue for it, is barbaric, cruel, and inhumane. such treatment can result in seizures, heart palpatating, feve, chills, upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, and a severe worsening of your original symptoms for which the medication was prescribed. having taken the medicine for three years, your body is accustomed to receiving a daily dosage. your brain looks forward to the medicine to keep the chemical imbalance in check.
PLEASE see you doctor or psychiatrist ASAP. the hospital has put you in a jeopardizing situation.
seek help and best of luck!

Please talk to your own doctor. And ask the hospital why they stopped it. Your have every right to ask and they will quite happily tell you all they can. Just ask.
Depression is a chemical imbalance and it can take a while to get the medication right. This can change as you age or if your lifestyle changes.

All sorts I should imagine. With any antidepressants its advised to stop taking them gradually, lower the dose. With the antidepressant Cipralex I had to come off them gradually before I could start taking the antidepressant Venlafaxine. Go see your doctor.

I do not think it is save to stop that sort medication is safe ,I would ask a GP what sort of measure you can take to remedy that withdrawal ! I could imagine it to be quite dangerous !
