Because we are looking for the quick fix and are relying more and more on medications and doctors to fix our problems. The medications themselves cause an increase in depression and I have seen a doctor or two that have increased depression in me.

I believe the rise in depression rate is based more on the ability to count the number of people who seek treatment with medication.

Probably because Europeans and Americans have higher expectations that they will never achieve, they are unrealistic. Asians tend to more accepting of what life brings to them, although if they have higher aspirations they will work harder to make sure that they achieve their goal, they are more realistic and don't sit back waiting to win the lottery.
