At the start of the year I had a major spinal fusion it went for like 12 and a half hours, then I was in hospital for 3 weeks then off school for months. It was very traumatic, im am extremely young, hence being the youngest patient at the hospital I went to. Now, at every mention at an opporation or of something being wrong with me I burst into tears, is this partly becuase of my opperation?

i have a problem with sleep. one time i went to bed pretty late and decided not to do that again for various reasons.
so the next day i decided to go at 8:30 but ended up feeling really tired when i woke up. this happens all the time ... i normally fall asleep at 11:00 but rarely feel tired the next day compared to if i went to bed early that night.
i dont understand how that works?! anyone know anything?

also, i find it incredibly hard to fall asleep at night! any ideas at all?
thanks

My son (23) sometimes has bouts with convulsive swallowing. I've spoken to quite a few people, and come up with no answers.
Yesterday, he came in from work (nights), and went to bed--It took him 4 hours to get to sleep because of convulsive swallowing. It seems to happen about every 15 seconds or so, and is totally impossible to control. We don't think it's serious, doesn't happen all the time, but would greatly appreciate some tips on what it might be, and how to treat.

I have been to the doctor several times for my weight loss.
I am very underweight and my bmi keeps falling lower and lower.
She doesnt seem to be taking me seriously.
She did blood tests for diabetes, thyroid, electrolyte imbalances, and pregnancy. Everything came back normal. except high levels of calcium, which she said is apparently no big deal.

at what bmi will i need hospitalization?
my current bmi is 15.2

I am very sensitive to drugs. I have a prescription filled twice a year for alprazolam (generic for xanex). The prescription I filled a month ago, does not help/work at all. It's like placibo. I know the medication still works for me because I had a few left from last time. When I take a 1/2 of one of those, it works just fine. I don't where to begin....do I go back to the doctor & explain to him or do I go to the pharmacist & explain to them. Thank you for your input.

I have always slept on my stomach but I was just recently pregnant so I had to sleep another way.

Pregnant women can't lay flat on their backs as all the baby weight presses on an artery (vein? well, blood vessel!).

It is hard to stay laying on your side without putting a pillow or something under your baby belly or you kind of end up rolling on to it and that hurts you (the baby is actually fine because they are surrounded but so much fluid and muscle and stuff it is painful for mom!). I spent the last handful of months on the sofa since it allowed me to kind of mush thing around so I could get sort of comfortable.

Now that the babies out I am sleeping on my tummy again but when I wake up to her cries my arms are sleep!

I lost weight (24 pounds) while I was pregnant so it isn't weight gain.

We have a great mattress and a memory foam thing on the bed.

So all this leaves me wondering what is the healthiest way to sleep.

I have some gas underneath the bottom of my ribs and it is causing extreme pressure and discomfort. This has happened to me before, but I can never find relief. Heating pads do not work at all. I took a Gas-X pill, and I am yet waiting for results. It just feels as if my ribs are going to break! Help!

like,
for example, my legs are like toothpicks when i wake up, and my hands are all stiff but throughout the day, my legs get a little more fat in them and my hands get thinner or like it was easier to move and everything. does everyone go through this?
i even have single eye lids in the morning but then double after a while. is it because my body is not fully awake?

I have a 32 degree curve in my lower back when. I have to wear a brace when I sleep. It was very uncomfertable at first , but now it's more comfortable. The doctor recently said it was better looking than normal for people. Does anyone else have scoliosis? How long did it take you to get used to it? I had really bad pains from the seams of my clothes going into my leg, but know I wear all seamless clothes.

Why can't I sleep? I have to wake up at 6:00 in the morning if I want to make it on the bus. Usually I can't get to sleep until around 1:00 AM and that's not enough sleep for me. Sometimes even up to 2am! I try watching tv, laying in complete silence, listening to music on low volume..

For some reason, I just cant keep my eyes shut. I'll close my eyes for half a minute but i'll open them without noticing for a while, I hate it. No matter how tired I am, I cant sleep! And when I finally fall asleep, I wake up a couple hours later!

What do you do to go to sleep and actually stay asleep, without taking medications?
