I do the same thing, but the health experts worry about bacteria and things that could give us a bug. If you wash it between usages, there is no real reason you can't do this safely. Happy you are reusing something that otherwise may have just ended up in a land fill and we do need to think about all this trash we generate. :)

There was a big scare about the plastic causing cancer a while back, but nowadays everything seems to make you ill.

If you're really worried, invest in a permanent sports bottle. Can't be much difference and they hold more fluid.

Most plastic water bottles sold with water in them are designed for one-time use only (unfortunately).

It's cheaper and safer to just go buy a reusable water bottle that is designed to be washed and used over and over.

I would get a nalgene bottle from any sporting goods store, and use that instead. They're almost indestructible, and the wide mouth means you can get inside them to clean them. After awhile, any bottle containing water will get a slight algae growth inside it. You can see it on a plain white paper towel if you wipe it out after a few weeks use.

Whether it is "safe or not is open to question - the USDA says that it is - but it has been proven that the bottles leech a bit of pertroleum by-products when used more than a couple of times.
