Try GABA 750 mg.
It's an amino acid as in something natural that is already in your brain.
It will make you relax before bed.
Natural foods stores carry it.

Yoga exercises before bed, even if you dont know yoga, just lay ur self out on the floor strechin ur body in different ways that feel good, dont over excert, and dont eat anything two hours prior to bed time, no music, a white noise machine, or fan, very dark, cover the alarm clock or any other visable clocks wit a hankercheif or something so u dont get paranoid lookin at the time

Do the following and please try it atleast for few days.

Dont take tea/coffee /cola drinks esp after 5 pm.
Avoid large quantities of any liquid or watery food even water after 7 or 8 in evening.
Go to toilet (to urinate) atleast 15-20 min before you intend to go to bed and then again about 2-3 min before going to bed.
Ensure sleep surroundings are calm and quite. No light no sounds. Draw your curtains.
Eat healthy food. Increase vegetables and fruits. Avoid spicy and fried food.
Make a routine to go to bed at same time every day even get up at same time each morning even if you dont get enough sleep. (this may happen for first few days but it ill get ok soon)
dont sleep in afternoon never for more than 30min.
And pls for god's sake dont even think of taking any medicines on your own without consulting your doc. (these medicines are the main culprits in 90% cases i myself being a doctor have seen many such cases) i hope that will help you.

Do something that really bores you. Tv might be a good choice. If you can turn down the brightness, do that. A nice warm bubble bath can help. I usually toss and turn before I go to bed but that wears me out and I just go off to sleep. I do like the smell of lavender. That does work from time to time.

An amino acid found in green tea (L-theanine) has a calming effect on the brain. The usual dose is 50-100mg taken on an empty stomach and creates a relaxing effect in approximately 30 to 40 minutes after ingestion.

Try an over the counter sleep aid and that my be all you need. You can use benadryl to get you sleepy, and that might do it for you. I have been the same place lay there and be wide awake for hours at a time and it is so frustrating you know what I mean. My doctor had me try these first and they did help. they are pretty safe and break the wide awake feeling enough you can sleep. I feel for you, that is, maddening ,staring at the ceiling. good luck, and have a good night's sleep.

Limit your caffine intake after 2pm. You should have a comfortable bed and a nice pillow. Keep the lights low in your bedroom. (Use a 40 watt light bulb) You could try using a lavendar linen mist on your pillow and if that does not work, take a Benedryl before bed. I take one every night, to help me to sleep. If all of that does not work, try seeing a doctor.

Do not resort to any kind of medicine.

1. work out regularly , the body would itself ask for rest.

2. Do not skip food at regular Intervals

3.Do not think deep before , ie: do not read ur bank statements.

Try doing this , I am sure you will sleep like a child . No is not an option.

Do you also have a hard time waking up. If so, it sounds like your Circadian rhythm is a little off. Take the Circadian Rhythm Assessment at http://www.apollohealth.com/apps/circ_assess_survey.html
Also, try not too hard to go to sleep. Just don't think about it.
To fix your circadian rhythm, you could try light therapy. If you can't buy it, just wake up like 30 minutes earlier for the next couple of days, and on weekends set your alarm the same time you wake up on weekdays.

Make your room dark, cool, and quiet. Avoid nightcaps, save warm milk. Don't exercise before sleeping- a high heart rate makes sleep almost impossible.
